Hello everyone, last year I did Spiti Valley Circuit Trip with a group of 13 people. I chose Spiti because after doing two Himalayan treks I wanted to do a road trip and Spiti Circuit was the best option.
I think many people know about Spiti Valley, a lot has be written about its history, terrain, landscape, wildlife, culture & tradition but it is best to experience it by yourself.
Spiti Valley Circuit 2019 -13th to 23rd September (9 Days)
Route: Shimla - Chitkul - Nako - Tabo -Pin Valley - Kaza - Kibber- Komic - Hikkim - Lanza - Kunzum pass - Chandratal - Manali
This was my itinerary of the epic adventurous road trip which I will blog in parts. In this photolog I am writing about initial part of our journey to Spiti through the Kinnaur Valley.
We gathered at Delhi Airport on 13th September and started our overnight journey to Shimla.
Day 1 (14th September) : Shimla - Thoeg
The toy train ride had a twist, actually we missed the train at Kalka station so we reached at another station where the train just arrived and not knowing our seat numbers we just boarded the train. This was our small 'Jab We Met' movie about to miss the train incident.
In evening we went to Theog a small town which is 18 kms from Shimla and rested for the day. Theog was very peaceful amidst beautiful mountains and away from crowd. We had bonfire and music session where the group got together and gelled along.
We reached at night to Raksham which around 11 km from Chitkul where had a very comfortable tent stay.
Day 2 (15th September) - Shimla (Theog ) to Chitkul
We woke up to a blissful morning. We went to Chitkul - The last inhabited village near the Indo-China border with the Baspa River, which travels with you on your right as you mount the Chitkul valley.
We left early after breakfast to Chitkul. This was a long 8 to 9 hours journey of beautiful drive through Kinnaur Valley. Here many of us felt motion sickness as we were gaining altitude.
We got a chance to traverse the Hindustan-Tibet Highway which is one of the world's most treacherous or adventurous or deadliest roads.
As on previous day everyone was feeling low due to motion sickness, today everyone was full of energy as we danced in the traveler. Also we sat on top of the traveler for a small ride which brought out the small kid in us shouting, laughing and enjoying the moment. It was pure happiness.
The journey continued and we could see the transformation in landscape from lush green to Rocky Mountains. We also saw Khab, confluence of Spiti and Satluj Rivers.
Also as we drove through these dangerous roads ,which are prone to accidents and also lot of blasting activity is in process for widening work.BRO (Border Roads Organisation) takes care of maintenance of the roads and also famous for their witty signboards
In evening we reached Nako village. It's a quaint village with a beautiful lake. Continuing we headed towards Tabo. Overnight at Tabo.
Kindly note this photo-blog has been be earlier published on The Moving Compass and the authors of both the blogs are same.
That's it for now, will continue the journey in next photolog.
