Shanti Stupa is located on a mountaintop in Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh, India’s northern region of Jammu & Kashmir. Shanti Stupa, located at a height of 4267 metres above Leh, provides a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. It is located around 5 kilometres driveable road from Leh city or 500 stairs up. Shanti Stupa is situated in such a way that it can be seen from all across Shanti Stupa is situated in such a way that it can be seen from all across Leh.

This Leh attraction was constructed as part of a Peace Pagoda Mission by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu. The Buddha’s relic is kept beneath the stupa. The ideal times of day to visit the Shanti Stupa are believed to be sunrise and sunset.

Shanti Stupa’s History

According to the Shanti Stupa’s history, it was erected in 1991 as part of the Peace Pagoda mission by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura. It houses the Buddha’s relics, which were enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama, at its base.
