One fine evening out of blue we made a plan to visit Renuka Ji. We were not quite aware about the beauty of the place but a friend's suggestion made us to pack our bags and head towards the abode of goddess Renuka. Our notion about the place was influenced by all the other lakes of Himachal Pradesh which we did not find much appealing. We had nothing to do in the weekend so thought of giving it a try.
We started at around 7 pm from Shimla, which I won't suggest to anyone of you. But though our plan execution got late because of lot of if's and but's we took a chance. It got very dark when we reached Kumarhatti and the further distance was almost the same. I was little worried due to the roads condition and asked my friends to halt in Kumarhatti itself. We asked the masses around and realised that the road for the region has been mantained very properly and it won't take much time to reach the place. We bought some snacks and resumed the journey. Surprisingly it took us two hours to reach the hotel, we unpacked our bags, had our dinner and fell asleep.
The first ray of the sun brought the comfort of making a right decision. It was like the perfect canvas with the awesome blend of colors. As always we visited the Renuka Mata Mandir first and had a little walk around the lake. It is said when Shastrabhu killed Maharishi Jamdagni, husband of goddess Renuka to get Kamdhenu cow (which as per Hindu mythology is said to be the source of all the riches) she flung herself into Renuka Lake. It is believed that as soon as the goddess made it her home, the lake took a shape of a lady. Fact: It is the largest lake in Himachal encompassing an area of around 3.2 Km.
As our hotel was near to the lake we decided to enjoy boating in the evening with the sun going down and cool breeze touching our cheeks. From lake we drove to Jaitak Fort which is 20 km from there. The fort is not in a good condition but the view is unbelievably spectacular. Take some time, breathe, relax and enjoy the moment. I totally emptied my mind out there, clicked some good pictures and decided upon the next stop.
There is a small zoo near to the lake where you can see Leopard, Samber, Deer, Barking Deer, Jackal, Hare, Jungle Cat, Plam Civet, Porcupine, Blue Jay, Black Partridge, Drongos, Hill Crow, Scarlet Minivet, Bulbul, Common Coots, and Pigeons. It also gives you a chance to see the rare Asiatic Lion.
Totally drained we visited the lake in the evening. It was looking more beautiful this time. Being covered by the lush green forests and mighty Himalayas it looked like a diamond in a ring. We enjoyed the boating and the breathtaking 360 degree view of the hills made us feel complete. To add upon were the chants of prayers and sounds of bells which will make you feel even better.
