The notorious pandemic’s rapid spread across the globe forced the Government to to observe lockdown. Eagerly waiting for unlock to happen, when the Government of Himachal lifted the travel restrictions, we breathed relief. After 8 months of house-arrest, it was time to escape the monotony and a quick off-the-wall vacation to Chail- a quaint little hamlet near Shimla, just 30 kilometers from Barog. Keeping the risks in mind, choosing a home-stay or a budget hotel was out of question. Therefore, our obvious choice was Maple Resort by Aamod.
About the property
Merely 45 km from Shimla on Kadaghat-Chail road at an altitude of 2250 meters, Maple Resort by Aamod makes for a picturesque and peaceful resort stay. With 29 beautifully designed rooms, exceptional service and modern amenities, the resort is an ideal place to unwind in lap of nature. What’s unique is its good road connectivity to Shimla yet the quiet charm that it retains.
Types of Rooms
The resort is equipped with modern amenities like indoor & open terrace restaurant, indoor activity room, gym, well maintained gardens, free wi-fi facility and a lot more.
The resort has three types of rooms-
Deluxe Double Room
Perfect for solo or budget travelers, the deluxe rooms are cozy, comfortable and quite affordable. You can soak in the breathtaking view from the window or unwind at the terrace.
Super Deluxe Room
From the stilted floor to the heavy dark wood furniture, everything looks antique in the sizable super deluxe rooms. The attached balcony offers stupendous view of the lush green mountains and ample space for gathering.
Executive Double Room
A super spacious room with expansive balcony, perfect for business travelers or big families. What makes this room different is an addition of jharokha bed and a mini refrigerator. We spent superb time together on the jharokha bed, adoring the view and gossiping for hours over tea.
Cost
Depending on the amenities offered and the type of room you choose, the average cost for a standard room ranges between Rs 5,000-8,000
Food
Maple by Aamod has a limited menu for lunch and dinner. The distance from main city and its offbeat location restricts them in terms of food items. But food is delicious and we had no complaints whatsoever. Inspite of the the rates being comparatively high, its totally worth. We recommend Subz Haandi – a delicacy of mixed vegetables topped with cream and Chilli Garlic Noodles. You would absolutely relish these. Complimentary breakfast has a wide array of options from paneer/aalu/gobi parantha and bread- omlette to pooji sabzi and chana bhatura.
Following social distancing measures, buffet is closed these days. You can enjoy the meal served at the restaurant or in your room.
Win-win for us
-The price for executive room was slashed post unlock phase and we got an awesome deal.
-The resort is pet friendly and they don’t mind stray dogs inside the compound. We had a great conversation with a water supplier who comes in a truck with his energetic little pet pug.
-Being environment conscious, the ‘best of out of waste’ elements got us excited. Afterall we get what we do for the environment.
-We’d like to give a bonus point to the extremely courteous and caring staff who went an extra mile to help us in a situation. So it happened that we forgot our camera bag at the reception while checking-out. This we realized only upon reaching Dharampur. Staff member Kamal came all the way to Solan to return our bag. No words are enough to express our gratitude to him. For us he was god sent.
-The staff follows every safety protocol within the resort. From wearing masks and keeping hand sanitizers everywhere, they maintain sterility and prepare food hygienically. We knew were in safe hands.
Overall, Maple resort by Aamod exceeded our expectations. We headed home with a handful of happy memories and a phenomenal experience.
How to reach Chail
No public transport for direct connectivity. The most convenient way is to drive to the place. Chail is around 380km from Gurugram and merely 41km from Shimla. You can also hire a taxi from your local travel agent.
Best time to visit Chail
Chail can be visited any time of the year. Its pleasant in summers and receives a fair share of snowfall in winters, precisely January. Pack light jacket even if you are visiting in summers. Winters obviously require you to pack heavy woolens to beat extremely low temperature.
