With heavy snowfall showing up early this season, the Manali-Solang-Nalla route saw four-kilometre-long traffic jams on Monday, 23rd December. Tourists and locals in Himachal Pradesh were stuck for hours and vehicular movement has slowed down across the state.
More of everything
With Manali receiving its first snowfall of the season about two weeks ago, tourist footfall to the hill-town has increased. Neighbouring hills like Gulaba, Solang and Kothi are also experiencing moderate snow. Many tourists were seen ditching their vehicles to explore the area. Lack of availability of hotel rooms and accommodation is further adding to the issues.
It’ll give you the chills!
Manali and Bhuntar in Kullu have recorded temperatures as low as minus 3 and minus 0.8 degrees Celsius respectively, according to the weather department. A maximum temperature of around 10 degrees in Manali offers rare respite. The entire region is covered in thick sheets of white and authorities are taking all the steps needed to bring the routine back to normal.
Take note
The cold wave continues to sweep North India and the conditions are likely to prevail, if not worsen, in the coming days. Travellers heading for Himachal are thus advised to check the routes before heading out and plan accordingly.
