"Julley !"
The local kid greeted as I sat next to him on the small rickety red tempo heading into town.
The blogs advised to take a day's rest when landing in Leh to acclimatize. Your's truly, in all his excitement, took the decision to walk the distance from the airport to the accommodation. Needless to say, I never made it.
Hitch-hiking the tempo from halfway, the little local kid dressed in his monk red robes who was kind enough to explain the route looked confused.
For the life of him, he couldn't understand three things:
- Where was I from,
- Why did I come when the season had closed a week earlier,
- Why did I come solo. "Uncle, shaadi nahi hua?"
Sparing him the details, I smiled weakly and replied "Julley".

"Julley !"
Aunty Rinchen wished as she made a much needed cup of tea on a cold Monday morning. The Gotal Guesthouse always had a full flask of tea, all day around.
After close to two weeks here, I had made peace with the weather. I knew I was going to miss the chills once I came back to the city.
Tiptoeing back from the kitchen, with the warmth of the cup in my hand, I opened the wooden window of my room. I watched the sun break free from the horizon's grasp and the mountain ranges cast in honey-golden light with the peaks covered with a powder of fresh snow.
I smiled with a tinge of regret. I would miss this place - the old world charm, the laid back lives of the countryside and the serenity that came with every sunrise.
"Julley", i sighed to myself.

The past few days have filled with enough memories of glory and wonder to fill up a lifetime.
.
From sitting around the small gas burner and enjoying delicious dinners cooked by the warmest people.
We experienced the best hospitality in the humblest of establishments.
.
From quiet reflections at the monasteries to catching the sunsets from the highest vantage points.
We found peace in the harshest of weathers and remotest of places.
.
From diving into blizzards to getting ambushed by tiny monks, we threw caution to the winds, gave fewer cares and got a tad bit braver.
.
And so, so much more that I don't think I will be able to sum up in a single post.
So to sum it up in a single word.
Julley,
Sandy
