As if the natural beauty of the province isn't enough to lure tourists, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and hotel industry have made visiting the state even more tempting by offering a whopping 50% discount on room rents till 15th September.
Why is Himachal Pradesh offering such huge discounts to tourists?
As per news, once-in-a-lifetime offer comes after heavy monsoon rains wreaked havoc on the state, resulting in negligible tourist footfall and thousands of bookings being cancelled during what is usually a lean tourist season. Recently, with rivers in spate, bridges damaged, and hotels and roadside eateries destroyed, the state government has launched an emergency relief drive to evacuate over 70,000 tourists stranded in popular tourist locations such as Manali, Kullu, Kasol, and Manikaran.
The hotel industry, one of the major casualties of this natural disaster, is also requesting the state government to announce fresh incentives so that it can get back on track, and is even contemplating rebates and tax concessions. Adding to the government’s massive tourism promotion campaign this year - that saw 86 lakh tourist footfall in just the first six months alone, the 50% discount on hotel stays is sure to be a major boost to the state's revenue.
How's the current scenario of Himachal Pradesh like?
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has issued a statement assuring tourists that things are back to normal and that the state is safe to travel now. Himachal Hotels and Restaurant Associations president Ashwani Bamba is also hopeful that the discounted tariffs will draw in more visitors over the coming months.
