After coming back from Osla a village in Uttarakhand (on which I wrote an article) , I was not able to resist myself from visiting and exploring another village of India in the Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh)
That is when this month me and a friend decided to explore Parvati Valley as we had not been there before. So if you are looking to explore lesser known villages in the Parvati Valley then a 10km hike to Grahan Village is a must.
About Grahan-
It is located to the north of hippie town Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. It has only 50 houses and around 350 villagers. The village has some beautiful temples with significant architecture.
The people are very sweet and humble but the best of the village are its kids. There are two schools in the village- Primary and Secondary but they are still struggling to get more teachers there.
How to reach Grahan-
Hiking is the only option for tourists and locals to reach the village from Kasol. The trail is pretty much marked with signages courtesy youth hostel.
Detailed information to reach Grahan Village-
If your destination is Grahan Village then you need to get to Kasol.
I took a bus from Delhi to Bhuntar (Volvo) which costed my 950 Rs. Further to reach Kasol I took a local bus from Bhuntar bus station (50Rs).
From Kasol as you cross the main bridge you will see a trail going towards your left which is the one for Grahan.
About the trail-
The trail to Grahan is pretty much easy with decent gradient.It is a jungle trail and sunlight is not a problem for you.
While hiking we pass through forest with huge pine trees ans sounds of birds and insects and also the might Parvati River. We also crossed a few wooden bridges.
There were two trails after 5 kms - One which was easy but long and the other a bit difficult but short. You can ask the villagers who pass by about this and choose accordingly.
Enroute there was a cafe called R.S Cafe which serves good ginger lemon honey tea and amazing maggie and omlette.
Total time to trek till the village- 4 to 5 hrs (subjective to an average speed)
Note -As for the dogs you meet on the way are extremely friendly and almost become your guides on the trek.
Where to stay-
You need not camp at Grahan as there are ample homestays in the village that might cost you about 400 per night per double room.
Food- It is not a problem either as you can eat at the homestay or guest house you are staying in, otherewise there are shops as well.
We chose to stay in Mountain View guest house which was located at the end of the village with an amazing view and food.
The village has no cellular network and no ATMs. That is why if you are looking for a village with much needed peace then Grahan is the one as Kasol and Tosh are crowded in comparison.
This place is still untouched at very much road less travelled in Parvati Valley.
But one important thing that needs to be noticed about the village is that 90 percent of the tourists there are Israelis. They love that place can choose to stay there for weeks and sometimes even months.
