Millennial travellers have had enough of Shimlas and Manalis, this decade is to explore the offbeat destinations in India. Jibhi is one of them, a place in Kullu district away from the city-hustle.

Jibhi - Hill station far from the 4G world

Jibhi is a small place in Kullu district which doesn't have any direct connectivity with the major cities including Delhi and Chandigarh. This is what makes it even better, difficulty in reaching is inversely proportional to the people visiting this destination.

Reaching there

Bus

Take a volvo from Delhi to Manali (a lot of buses run on this route) and get off just after the Aut Tunnel. You can opt to continue the journey in a local bus or hire a cab till Jibhi. If you're going solo and are on a budget, take a local bus from Aut to Banjar and then another final bus from Banjar to Jibhi.

Bus+Cab

If you are someone who can't maneuver in a local bumpy ride, you should probably opt to take a cab from the Aut Tunnel. The cabbie will charge anywhere between INR 1000-1400 for a ride to Jibhi and it's even better if you're 3-4 people as the bus would also cost the same.

Day 1

It takes around 1.5hr to reach Jibhi from Aut and the roads from Aut to Jibhi are picturesque and you would love the journey with Beas river flowing right next to the road. Make sure you have made the prior bookings for your stay as this isn't a hill station with a lot of hotel options and have limited number of Airbnb's, homestays and also a hostel (Mudhouse hostel). Just contact your host and he/she will guide your driver about where to park or drop you off.

Narayan's Cottage

We opted to stay at Narayan's cottage which turned out to be one of the best if not the best stay options available in the whole of Jibhi region. They have 3-4 cute wooden cottages and you can rent out an entire cottage which is equipped with all the basic amenities including a kitchen and a heater. If you're someone who loves to enjoy the Himalayan solitary, clear night sky with million stars and a cottage tucked away among the mountain woods - this could be the end of your Tripoto/Google search.

The region doesn't offer a lot of eating or staying options but is perfect for a nature lover. One can literally hear the birds chirping, shooting stars, meteor showers, and UNESCO's heritage site Great Himalayan National Park is also a few kms away. From wildlife to nature trails, this place has a lot to offer

Jibhi is one of its kind, as even with the absence of major tourist attractions it can always make you stay on the go by offering multiple activities:

1. Trout Fishing

2. Cycling

3. River Crossing

4. Visit the Jibhi waterfall

5. Trek to Serolsar lake and Jalori Pass

6. Visit Mudhouse hostels and interact with travellers around the globe

7. Astro photography or Star Gazing

8. Relax at the riverside with no one to judge

9. Visit Great Himalayan National Park

One cannot miss coming to this place if they're visiting Jibhi, except if you are planning to relax all day at your cottage which is what I did the last time I was in Jibhi. This time I made sure to visit Jalori pass and trek to Serolsar lake. Jalori Pass is about 12kms away from Jibhi and the views from Jalori pass are just astounding but you can have even better. Just go to Serolsar lake, it's about 3-4kms trek one side from Jalori pass and is an easy trek which could be completed in 6hrs (4 if you speed up).

We overslept and reached Jalori around 1 pm, we had to take a call if we would be doing the trek or not as it gets dark by 5 pm and the trail didn't have any artificial lighting. The adventurer in me spoke, karlenge (it could be done) and if not there's always the option of not summiting and returning midway.

Day 2

Jalori Pass @1pm

It was the last week of December and the trail was covered with dense snow, after numerous thoughts of going back we went all out and trekked to the frozen Serolsar lake. As soon as I had the first glimpse, I was ready to spend the night without any fears. 360° snow-covered mountains, a mandir and a frozen lake. As we were late to reach Serolsar, we got to see this mesmerizing view without any human in the sight. Dusk was like a blessing in disguise for us.

Reaching Serolsar in 2 hrs took a toll on our energy levels and we were drained out, there are a couple of eating joints a few hundred metres before the lake where we enjoyed rajma chawal. The taste was decent and they also had chocolates and other packaged stuff which can help in regaining the energy levels. By the time we reached back to Jalori, the visibility was hardly 20mts but we were glad we made it before it got completely dark.

Jibhi is all about nature, you can simply enjoy the sounds of flowing river and chirping birds. The place is evolving rapidly, visit before it gets too commercialised.

Food

You can find a couple of grocery stores if you walk 1-2kms towards Banjar and the market also have some cafes where you can eat out. I would suggest eating at your stay, as the hosts usually cook a nice local homemade food with organic vegetables which one cannot easily find in metropolitan cities.

Make sure you're a responsible traveller and don't leave a lot of human footprints in the means of plastic at unexplored places like Jibhi.
