Day 6
Continuation from last blog. Here comes the exciting part of the whole journey.
Yesterday, the day went without doing paragliding but today the weather was good with clear sky. I woke-up by 7:00 Am jumped out of bed called the paragliding pilot with me 3 Zostelers were also joined and by 8:00 Am we got into the jeep and started towards take-off site which is located at “Billing”. It took almost 45min to reach the location my heart started pounding fast because I have never done any adventure before this would be my first and at the same time excited too. Finally, I have reached the take-off point and the view from there is like “Oh My Gosh”.
Our next stop is Baijnath, the temple of Lord Shiva. The inscriptions were beautifully made on long slab inside the temple.
Shakul already booked a beautiful stay in the vintage property which is “The Mirage”.
When I woke up I realized that I haven’t planned where to go but finally decided to visit Manali. Meanwhile, We decided to visit nearby places so we started with Sobha Singh Art Gallery which is very famous for his paintings. The paintings were so beautiful we saw the drawing room and it was very well-maintained. After spending around 30 min. Later, which we went to see how pottery is made so we reached the place and with the help of a potter Shakul made a beautiful small vase.
After reaching Manali there were only 5 people are left in the bus. Finally, I got down and taxi people started to ask for which place should I take you. I had to go to Old Manali which is hardly 2km and they started to ask ₹300 but somehow managed to get ₹150.
Later, got inside the taxi and we left but this taxi guy left 200mts before and telling me that it is too steep car cannot go and He was like I will walk with you and he came with me 10-20 steps and he left me. It was very steep than Mcleodganj Zostel I was carrying luggage and no street lights and no one was there. Slowly, I started to walk holding mobile torchlight and seeing the map for location. The map was showing another direction because it had very narrow lanes side by side. I decided to call Zostel and get the correct address finally with the help of Zostel manager I located and after 15min I have reached Zostel.
Finally, after reaching I went to the room got freshen up and went out to check if any restaurant is open as I was hungry. I couldn’t find anything so, I came back and met Gaurav Saini, roommate he told me about his journey and where and what all he visited. He gave me the contact for Sethan village which will be useful. Finally, the day has ended for me and slept peacefully.
While walking towards Zostel I could hear scary sounds.

Happy Travelling :)
I got harnessed and my heartbeat was rising but my pilot was giving confidence “All is well”.
The moment of truth is here I was instructed to run that’s all I need to do and did it. Within a few seconds, I was myself in mid-air between the sky and land. The wind was taking us to more heights because we are in between the hills. After some time, we are in a stable position and I was enjoying the view from the top and the cold wind splashing on your face.
My pilot name was Ajay he was 8+years experienced and I had a conversation with him about his life in Bir. Also, he was showing Zostel from the top and it was amazing and just before landing, he made few stunts which was freaking scary but finally we touchdown.
The journey from Billing to Bir took around 15-20min to get completed. This was an unforgettable experience in my whole life it was truly amazing.
Cost of ParaglidingTotal Cost: ₹2000 (including GoPro footage)Photos: ₹300 (Extra)
We collected photos and videos from the photographer. After a few minutes, we 4 met at the landing site and went for having breakfast. There was a restaurant in front of the landing site where the view was amazing.
I decided to go with Shakul to Andretta in Palampur which is 11km from there. I never heard that kind of place so I was excited to visit. So, I reached Zostel and packed the bags and left to Andretta. We were waiting for the taxi and Shakul planned to visit a few places on the way. The taxi has arrived and we started our journey to Andretta, Palampur. On the way, we stopped at “Paplung Sherabling Monastery” which is the largest monastery in Bir.
We entered inside which is so beautiful where one can witness the peace inside. We left our shoes outside to step inside the temple. As we step inside you will see “Maitreya” who is a bodhisattva who will appear in future, to achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure dharma. After spending for few min we came back just overlooked at the Monastery and got into the taxi.
In this property, there are antiques like chimneys, cupboards, tables and chairs.
Our host was Mr Dennis, he was from England settled in Andretta past 14 years. He was kind gentlemen and as it was Shakul’s birthday tomorrow he prepared cake which was meant to be a surprise.
We went to room dropped luggage and got freshen up. I went out to see the complete property also I met a special friend “Sweety” the dog. I was playing for some time and it was becoming dark. After some time, we came to the living room and was having a conversation for some time. As time passes by it was time for dinner so there is a cook on the property. He prepared soup, dal, roti and sabzi which is good. Meanwhile, it was Shakul’s birthday and she cut the cake and Dennis also joined us. The taste of the cake was good. While having dinner we spoke about him like how did he come and settled at this place. The conversation went for an hr. It was late, we went back to the room and slept.
Day 7
I clicked a few photos of the property and went to have breakfast and said goodbye to Dennis.
I went back to the room and packed the bags met Shakul and said bye and left from there.
Now, I was walking towards the bus stand which is located 500mts far from the property. I reached the bus stand and after 15min bus has arrived and got it. The bus took 45min for 11km I was carrying loads of luggage.
Finally, I managed to get the seat and put down my luggage. I was asking information to the bus driver where I can get the bus to Manali. He replied, “You will get from Baijnath”. I said “Thank You” and finally arrived at Palampur and took another bus to Baijnath which is 15km which took another 1hr 15min to reach. After arriving at Baijnath I had to wait almost 30min until the Manali bus arrives and this local bus which stops at almost every village/town. But I had to reach Manali today itself else I got nowhere to go.
I have got into the bus at 2:30 Pm and reached Manali at 11:00 Pm via Joginder Nagar, Mandi. It was the most tiring journey of the whole trip.
