Though I am not quite a trekking or hiking person but enjoyed my walk and a mini trek I may say to the Bhagsunag Waterfalls in Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh. Today I would like to share my experience of the visit, especially for my friends and fellow travellers who love hiking and trekking.
Origin of the Bhagsunag Waterfalls
The waterfalls cascade down the rocky cliffs and mountain slopes from a height of about 30 feet. Its origin is from the Dhauladhar valley, a religious place in the region. The fall is at its full peak during the monsoon season due to the heavy rains. In other seasons the force is not high and you can watch the gushing view once you reach the origin point of the waterfall. There are pools of water present at a few places along the path where you can sit and dip for a refreshing and cool experience.
Start your journey from Bhagsunag Temple
Before you proceed toward the waterfalls, visit the Bhagsunag temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can find images of other gods and goddesses also in the temple premises. There is a pool of water where devotees sometimes dip in for seeking peace and tranquility.
A Thrilling walk towards the falls
If you love walking and trekking, then you will love the walk toward the waterfalls. There are certain areas where you will find rocky but the majority of the path is high to medium steps. So do not forget to wear some good shoes and ensure to remain hydrated. There are protected railings at the side to provide support and protection. Few areas are kept open for people to descend down into the water pools and also to the venue for the adventure sports. Cafes are present along the way if you want to sip on some drinks and munch on some snacks.
The view is captivating and intriguing with the greenery around and the rocky slopes. Though you need to climb up many steps, you won't feel the tiredness. The landscape greets with freshness, much relief to the tiring feet.
Things to do at the Bhagsunag Waterfalls
1. If you love adventure sports, then go for zip-lining. You need to descend down a few steps in between to reach the arena.
2. Visit the Shiva cafe and End of the World cafe just near the falls to sip some tea or coffee.
3. Dip into the pools of water in between the path of the falls for a refreshing experience.
4. Sit and relax near the foot of the falls and enjoy the mesmerising experience of the falls and their adjoining landscape.
Best time to visit
You can visit during the summers, like what I have planned for. Or after the monsoons during the months of October and November. The days are warm and the nights are pleasant.
How to reach?
If you are visiting Dharamshala and Mcleodgang, the waterfalls come in between the two towns - 3 km from Dharamshala and 2 km from Mcleodganj. It's almost a 2 km trek from the Bhagsunag temple.
Timings
7 AM to 9 PM, open throughout the year.
True I missed the gushing flow of the falls as it was summer when I visited the falls and usually the water is in full force after the monsoons. Yet I loved the view and the scenic beauty around.
