We visited this place last year in September. I was planning to go out of the city for a relaxed weekend with my sister and we were looking at options and had been asking around... a friend suggested this little hidden gem in Alwar, the Dadhikar Fort. It's hardly a 3-4 hours drive from delhi and surprisingly the road is really good post you cross Gurgaon. The best time to plan a visit would be either during the monsoons or winters. Just follow the GPS, you might need to ask for the direction for the fort hotel property once you are around and the village folks are really helpful. The property is in the middle of a small village surrounded by open fields all around. The staff is really hospitable and the owner of the property attends to all the guests himself. The food is superb (they serve only vegetarian meals) and tastes just like home food, so, be prepared to do some over eating!! The chef was always present there during all the meals.
I would recommend to carry your own Booz which can be kept in the hotel freezer. We took a small room since it was only the two of us, however, on the second day we were upgraded to a much bigger room on the ground floor itself, overlooking the front grounds of the property !! There are some activities that you may do like going for a trek or go for sight seeing around the property to places like Vijay mandir or the lakes... or just take along a book, laze around in the property and catch up on some reading :) do stargazing in the night... a peaceful getaway from the city madness. Since, the property is small and they have only a limited number of rooms, one would need to do the booking much in advance. Over the weekends, it's sold out!! Majority of the guests are couples and families. They also arrange for small cultural programs in the evenings. P.S. there is no tv or wifi at the property. While going, leave for the place early morning and while returning, start post lunch. It's worth a visit and worth every penny spent!
