> Laxmi Vilas Palace the largest private residence in India. In fact, it is even 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 times bigger than 𝐁𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞.
> It was built by 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐣𝐢 𝐑𝐚𝐨 𝐈𝐈𝐈 between 1878 and 1890 ruling Gaekwad family of yore, a prominent Maratha line of rulers who had control over Baroda state. It took about twelve years to complete its construction. Back in 1890, the cost of erecting this massive palace cost the royal family £𝟏𝟖𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 which translates to ₹𝟐𝟕 𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐡.
> 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐭 was hired as the chief architect of the palace and designed the structure in 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨-𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐜 style.The architect, Major Charles Mant, hung himself before the construction was completed as his calculations made him believe that the palace would collapse. However, 𝟏𝟐𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 later, the palace still stands strong.
> The palace is spread over an area of 𝟕𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐬 and has many structures in the premises, and also includes a golf course, a zoo (inhabited by peacocks and crocodiles) and a museum (Fateh Singh Museum).
