There are many temples dedicated to Sun in many parts of the world. Modhera Sun Temple is one such temple dedicated to Sun. It is not only an ancient temple but a standing evidence of architectural and scientific excellence of 11th century India.
Bhima I of Solanki dynasty constructed the temple around year 1026 A.D. The temple complex has Garbhgriha, Mandapa and a kund. Archeological survey of India has developed Gardens and a museum in the complex.
How to reach
Modhera is located in Mehsana district around 100 KM north of Ahmedabad. Nearest railway station is Mehsana and nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad. You can take self driven car or a cab from Ahmedabad. There are regular GSRTC buses for Modhera from Ahmedabad.

What to do
The Modhera Sun Temple is perfect place to witness the historical architectural knowledge of India. The temple is so scientifically planned that Tropic of Cancer passes through its Garbhagriha. The thematic and beautiful carving on the walls of temple is breathtaking.
