Hey, I am Tanmay and by heart and mind a passionate traveller and explorer of places around the globe and after a long gap I finally signed up for my first Winter Trek. After lots of research to have a first experience to be awesome and mind blowing I zeroed down to one of the favourites in Winter Treks - none other than Kedarkantha in Uttranchal with Indiahikes.
This is Day 1 when I left for the trek to reach Dehradun from Mumbai.
18th December is the date on which my journey got more exciting as I started the second phase of travel towards my trekking base camp in Kothgaon which was around ~9-10 hours scenic journey from Dehradun.
19th December 2019, Good Morning guys...finally all set for the epic trek of my life to kick off, done with the briefing sessions, breakfast and packed lunch to have enroute, this was the most awaited day to start the winter trek. We approximately started at 8 am in the morning and had to cover around 5kms of hiking gaining an elevation from Kothgaon base camp (~6000 ft) to somewhere around (~9000 ft), and was expected to be a long but thrilling hike ...here we begin. .
This was 20th December 2019 when we once again woke up to a fantastic and mesmerizing view of Snow clad mountains and dense pine trees sprinkling snow from their leaves to begin our Day 2 hiking to Kedarkantha Summit base camp.
The ultimate day and moment is here now to be witnessed.. the reason for us to be hiking all these days is about to be unfolded ....yes ..summit climb day.
As it was summit climb our day began very early in the morning at around 3AM and by 4:45 AM we were all set with our trekking kit and poncho over it as we were experiencing snowfall . For the first time i felt not so good looking at the snowfall with the fear of having the summit climb cancelled...for which we were there .
But Nature God has been kind enough and snowfall stopped in a while where in dark with head torch on we embarked on our most awaited summit climb of Kedarkantha.
The summit climb was not a easy feat and definitely ascend was steep...but the view of summit from far away and the passion to achieve it fueled our mind whereas the maggi and tea breaks at dhabas on way fueled our hungary stomach...
After hours of steep climbing and walking the final destination at sight makes us express in a way which is hard to speak, tell or even imagine by humans or any kind of technology.
I can tell you, it's the similar joy or happiness which folks who have seen "Pursuit Of Happyness" can co-relate to which is depicted brilliantly by Will Smith in the end.
Better not to attempt to explain any further as all efforts to express those moments are in vain.
However will try to demonstrate it visually to give a slight sense of it...
This is 22nd December and post summit climb we were back to the summit base camp had a good night sleep with temperatures falling below -10 degrees and in the freezing night had a warm sleep to begin the journey from where it all started ....base camp Sankri, a few kms from Kothgaon.
The descend was more of fun and bit relaxed compared to ascend where all of us could get down at base camp in couple of hours with all the tea and snacks breaks along with clicking some memories on the way back...
Trekking was not only challenging myself physically but mentally as well. I believe it has lot of life lessons to teach and gives you an opportunity to get completely disconnected from our digital virtual world and think within and retrospect to finally be a better and enhanced version of yourself.
I think ek baar to banta hai...winter trek ...hike physically to attain mental heights.
