No matter what, one must surely try Konkan food during the vacations in Goa and many restaurants in the state provide authentic Konkani dishes but not every restaurant is affordable enough to pay a regular visit. Fortunately we, the gang of 7 people who stayed in Panjim found one right opposite to our hotel at the very end of Rua de Ourem. Whenever we go on a trip, we always find that one place to crash daily because of the ambience, the quality and the hospitable environment. In this context, the Konkan Classic family restaurant & bar of Panjim has welcomed us many times while we were exploring way too many places in Goa.
As it was quite accessible and feasible to visit whenever we want throughout the day, we gradually fell in love with the restaurant and tried almost all kinds of recipes and drinks. I'm still sure the staff could never forget our presence over there as we marked our signature model behaviour by covering the whole premises in capturing food clicks and Instagram reels. Always choose a restaurant where the quality and quantity of food remains commendable and if that restaurant offers you the best hospitality, service and some on-the-house drinks, why not?
Yes, it did happen with us, on one particular evening, the staff announced 7 Kamakazhi shots and it was a sweet gesture from their side. Right from the beginning till ending of our vacation, we almost visited that restaurant almost every single day for around 10 days straight. When good places come in handy, one must not have to look out for other places, especially if they stay in your nearest eye-sight.
On the first day, soon after we checked in to our hotel in Panjim, we were starving for food and we explored this place to just get done with that one lunch but the food we had over there stole our hearts as everything on the menu was quite affordable enough. Group travel plans work only when everyone falls in love with a particular place to hang out over food, drinks and crazy moments. On the first day itself, we had various kinds of thalis including Veg Thali, Non-veg thali and Seafood thali. This place provides almost all Indian recipes and is famous for special Konkani dishes. We then decided to give it a proper visit the next time which was on our second day evening for drinks.
The beer range starts from 80 rupees and I still remember having three Vodka pegs of 30 ml for 30 rupees each at the bar counter on the last day of the vacation as I was completely immersed myself in calculating the whole vacation bills and sorting it out for each person to pitch and manage properly. One must not have to worry much about the bills while boozing over here because compared to the money we spent on other restaurants in so-called happening places of Goa, this place almost cut our costs by delivering the best food and best service.
As I planned a vacation with Malayalis, this place was likeable to them because everyone was fond of savouring non-vegetarian dishes and on the other hand I tried all the vegetarian recipes from the restaurant. So one evening before attending the party at Sangria, Anjuna, we thought of getting sloshed and filling our tummies with food so that we could actively embrace the Goan nights. Hence, we visited this restaurant and ordered one full bottle of vodka with a few appetizers and snacks to munch on. Of course, we used to beers as if they were water bottles.
The restaurant provides both outdoor and indoor seating. Under an airconditioned atmosphere, this place was always a good option to enjoy without compromising our fashionable avatars and unpredictable Goan rains in October. The smoking zone is outside though but still, the premises with white chairs and mahogany tables provide an aesthetic appearance and the place also look peaceful as it is located on the edge of Rua de Ourem of Panjim.
So, on that day when we had our enough drinks, suddenly the bartenders approached me with their kind offer of Complimentary drinks and course I couldn't deny them. Hence a few of us who love shots had a typical club scene at the bar counter that was decorated with fine crockery and some beautiful liquor bottles. The staff were good with us and they made sure everything we ordered would get to our table in minutes span on top of it, they also never denied preparing recipes that we asked for out of the menu. The cook has delivered delicious dishes with lovely presentation thoroughly.
Before going to make any further travel plans in our hired car, we used to visit this hotel and have good food so that we could be rejuvenating for the whole day and there were many times this place had relieved us from our starvation and sloshed out moods. We did the same thing when we planned to visit Dudhsagar falls from Panjim and to cover the whole distance in our car, we ended up filling our tummies at this very place.
And the next day, one fine hot sunny afternoon after having our photoshoot at Kesarval waterfalls, we again ended up at this place and truly we were hungry to the core that day. Out of nowhere, I realized that we didn't have the typical beach drinks anywhere in Goa and decided to order Pina Coladas. Because Goan trips won't work without Pina Coladas and as usual they delivered finely made drinks for us and we even ordered biryanis, rotis, paranthas and many North Indian dishes too.
In the middle of the trip, we did give a break to visit this hotel as we were into exploring food from other restaurants in other places I love exploring food chains only to judge their ambience and quality of food. But at the end of the day, we had to end up at our hotel in Panjim and we couldn't miss eating, boozing and appreciating Konkan Restaurant & Bar. Even on the last day before leaving Goa, we savoured those famous Konkan thalis from this restaurant to cherish the taste and our presence at that hotel.
Before bidding our byes to Panjim, I felt very sad leaving this place and the staff. I couldn't resist approaching them and thanking them for bearing all our model tantrums, out of the box glamorous appearances, some sloshed out talks and the noise we used to create unintentionally because of our group vibes. But they were sweet enough to reciprocate in the same way and that's the very reason why this particular restaurant of Panjim always resides a special place in my heart and all our group members' hearts too!
