For all you audiophiles, especially those who love vinyl records, here is something that will pique your interest. There's a bar that caters to your kind. And it's in everyone's favourite state - GOA!
For The Record
Brewing since 2019, it finally opened in January 2020 and is aptly called, For The Record. It was the first of its kind in India. It's located in the Fontainhas area of the capital city of Panaji/Panjim, the neighbourhood famous for its 'gram-worthy colourful Portuguese houses, and has a neat setup.
Located inside an old Portuguese house, FTR houses 3 things that most people love (in no particular order) - music, a bar and food! The entire space is called Jukebox by the owner.
The Bar
On entering the house, the first room you encounter is the bar, which serves delicious feni cocktails with Indian craft spirits, keeping Goa in focus. They always use fresh and seasonal ingredients to make the cocktails, so you may not find the same drinks if you visit months apart.
It has a bar counter spanning its length and limited seating across from it with a gramophone in one corner that plays soothing (jazz) music most times, but can be switched up on request.
The place is low on lights but high in spirit (pun intended!) to maintain the vibe.
Drinks
The Vinyl Room
The adjoining room has been converted into a record store, called Audiophile Goa, where you'll find vinyl records of music from different genres of the years gone by. It also has analogue equipment related to vinyls and gramophones.
The Balcão/Porch
The balcão/porch and courtyard area are where you can be seated if the bar feels too cramped for you.
The Food
They also serve food for you to keep your tummy happy and your spirits in check.
When you visit, you will be greeted by the friendly face of Buland Shukla, who is the founder and resident mixologist at FTR. He was also a member of a band, which explains his love for music and his passion for the place. He will help you around the place, suggest cocktails for you to try or recommend a vinyl based on your interest.
If you are someone who loves or wants to experience the analogue audio format, then this is THE place for you! Or if you are a Gen-Z kid who has not seen/knows what I am talking about, then a visit to For The Record (FTR) is a must!
