Hello Tripoto community,
Recently I have earned a badge of "Travel Guru of Goa" on Tripoto. I think I really deserve it. Thanku Tripoto, it's my honor to be associated with Tripoto and to be called myself as a tripoto blogger.
Today I am going to write about the Fort which is situated in Vasco region of Goa but nobody knows about it. I also doubt that even some Goa people must not be knowing about the Fort. This unfortunate fort is "Mormugao Fort".
I was lucky to get posting in Goa in year 2015. I stayed there for 5 years. In this 5 years I saw Goa in detail. I mixed up with locals. I learnt Kokani. I got to know about the places which are not known by the tourists. You must have read about it in my other blogs.
On my way to office in Mormugao, I used to see one board "Mormugao Fort" along with the road which was indicating a way to upwards. There were Stairs going to the top of the hill. The way was covered with the grown wild plants and bushes, still some part of fort could be seen from the road. It was luring me to come and explore. But I was not having company and I was not wanting undue risk of going alone in such place. I had to wait.
My parents used to come to visit me sometimes as I was living alone. Once like that my mom came to my place. I told my mom about the place. She agreed to come. On one of the weekend we decided to go to that place. We reached to the base by my scooty. I parked it in one of the corner. We climbed up. I could see the protecting wall vividly. I was getting a kick. Yes finally here!!!
When we reached to the top we got a view of life time. Wow the spread ocean, boats of Indian Coast Guard and Cruises floating over it. This fort was built by Portuguese to keep an eye on the ocean as they were controlling the Marine Trade. I read about its history and came to know that the great Marathas even had conquered this fort and it was in their control for a while. Later it was again handed over to the Portuguese.
There was a little Chappel and Holy cross. I was feeling goosebumps. There were only my mummy and me. My mom was apparently angry on me to bring her to such isolated place. Even I was little scared. We strolled around that old fort. There were signs of recent prayers like candles and flowers which mean people come here to pray. I took abundant photos to show my friends and to boast about my recent adventure.
It was an afternoon and sun was shining so bright. There I got another way of exit where little garden was also developed. It seems that it was actually an entrance. As we come out I saw a huge building of Mormugao Port Trust standing right in front of us and there was well built road as well. I regretted to not know about it and coming here from isolated way.
There was board giving information about the Fort, which will give you the enough information about the Fort. The fort can be Further developed and restored by the government to attract tourists. Most of the part the fort is decayed with the time but it's rocky remains are still claiming it's existence by standing strong and looking at ocean with the pride. They are the only witness of the era which is now gone.....
Hope you guys liked the information. Please follow me for more intresting content. Keep traveling.
