The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is embarking on a new venture to introduce eco-tourism in the hinterland regions and establish camping grounds within forests managed by the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC). The project is set to cost approximately INR 30 crore, and GTDC intends to engage a consultant to create a detailed project report (DPR) for this initiative.

GTDC Takes the lead on implementing the right plan

The GTDC has invited consultants from their panel to provide expertise in developing eco-tourism in the hinterland areas and promoting the holistic development of camping sites within forest lands under GFDC's jurisdiction. Once appointed, the project management consultant will also be responsible for securing approvals from regulatory bodies like the town and country planning (TCP) department and the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).

Aligning with the minister's vision

This plan aligns with the vision outlined by the Minister for Forests, Vishwajit Rane, who previously proposed the development of camping facilities at Surla and the Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Minister Rane emphasized the importance of creating camping areas within forests to encourage more visitors to explore Goa's wildlife sanctuaries and parks. The GFDC was initially designated as the coordinating agency for all eco-tourism activities, but now GTDC is taking the lead in this endeavor.

The final step!

An official involved in the project stated that the consultant's primary responsibilities include preparing the DPR, conceptual and preliminary project design, detailed cost estimates based on market rates, submission of project drawings, project supervision, and obtaining necessary approvals.

Under Minister Rane's vision, Goa aims to establish jungle lodges similar to those found in Karnataka's forests and wildlife parks, as well as lodgings like tent cabins within forested areas. This initiative seeks to enhance Goa's appeal as an eco-tourism destination, drawing nature enthusiasts to experience its diverse flora and fauna.
