Carambolim lake is one of the most diverse wetland habitats in Goa and is known for the migratory birds that visit the lake and adjacent fields in winter. This lake is also been notified as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBBA). There is the lake on one side which supplies water to the fields and then the mangroves at the end. These varied habitats provide for a vast number of bird species specializing in these niche habitats. All these habitats together support a large number of migratory waterfowl, waders and a few wooded area species as well.
