Topping the list of things that are appealing to people are flowers. I am among those who fall for their charms be it in a flower vase of my own arrangement or in a field of millions of blossoms.
On this road trip, I will share my experience of how I made a decade old dream come true.
Travelling from Frankfurt, I drove 4 hours to reach Arnhem, where I made a stop over at a hostel that night. This gave me a head start to make the most of the following days. On any other time of year I would have spend more time to explore the Veluwe near Arnhem, but this time of year my goal was to see the Tulips in blossom, so Arnhem was only a pitstop.
After breakfast at the hostel I headed straight to the renowned Keukenhof flower park. I needed to get there as early as I could in order to avoid the crowds. It's the most popular spot and I had to visit it. As I arrived at the Keukenhof parking lot, at 10 AM , 1000+ cars were parked there.
Keukenhof didn't fail to disappoint me. The variety of flowers, specially tulips, however, inside the park was incredible but one cannot easily enjoy the views with the crowds swarming in. I still did admire the flowers and got myself a freshly made stroopwafel at the store near the windmill.
Nearby was a Tulip Experience, where one could walk along the tulip field. After which, I headed to my next stop for the night.
Everything I wished for in the trip was right around the corner. After spending the night in the newly built cottage, a few miles south of Julianadorp, I devoted the morning to take a stroll along the neighboring tulip fields.
Here, unlike Lisse and Keukenhof, the fields were vast and endless. During the stroll, I saw color fields, some already harvested with just the tulip heads cut off and shredded, rainbow colors as the farmers watered the fields and, I scouted for locations that I would come back later for a photo shoot.
Later in the day, I took my drone out for a drive to where I had spotted fields with a windmill in the backdrop. As I pulled over, there were couple other cars that were drawn to the spot. The field were being patrolled by a small bird, that noticed my drone. I tried my best to stay away from the bird and managed to get some good shots.
A nearby flower store was my first stop of the day, where there was a tulip patch for self picking tulips. My last stop for the day was going to be Frankfurt and hence I could still pick some tulips and bring them home the same day.
Next I headed to Julianadorp, to take a short dip in the North Sea. When I did arrive there was a small hill to climb before reaching the beach. These dunes were built so the ocean water doesn't enter the land. One could see more tulip fields in this area. It would be a perfect vacation spot with the shore on one side and tulip fields on the other side. The beach itself was very different from other beaches I have been to. There were no waves and it was very shallow at the shore.
With this my trip came to an end, and after a fuel stop I started the 6 hour journey back to Frankfurt.
