A wild land where mountains drop straight into the sea and delightful towns such as Kotor and Perast, cling to the coastline on the route south from the border with Croatia.
The border of Montenegro is only about 40 km away from Dubrovnik. In Montenegro we drive along the main coastal road through few small and nice places directly by the sea up to the place Kamenari from where we take the ferry to the other site of the channel. On the drive from the ferry to Kotor, we will make one more stop to have a unique view onto the whole Kotor-Risan Bay.
In Kotor you will have up to 2 hours time, to enjoy the beauties and the historical-cultural richness of this town, including 1 hour accompanied by a local licensed guide. The old town of Kotor is a well obtained centre from the Middle Ages, built between the 12. and the 14. Century, with many Latin and Gothic churches, facades, palaces and museums.
After visiting Kotor and before we drive back to Croatia, we will make a stop in Perast from where we will have a short boat drive to the islands “Lady of the Rock”.
The small island called Our Lady of the Rock (Gospa od Skrpjela) is a man-made islet, with a sailors' votive shrine by the same name. The islet was built by constant heaping up of stones that started in the middle of the 15th century with a museum, and has been going on, to some extent, to this day. The islet covers an area of 3030 m2. Here a local guide is waiting for you to explain the history of this island and its church.
The second island is a nature island of St. George that houses a 17th century church of the same name, as well as the Perast cemetery, dating from 1886, and an ancient Benedictine abbey, from the 12th century but it is closed for visitors.
Please do not forget to take your passport or an identity card with you on this trip and of course a camera with enough memory so you can think of this great day you had, over and over.
