I fell in love with Duronvik the moment I read about the Game of Thrones shoot locations. Croatia was one country that I knew nothing about, but this one show put it on the travellers map.
In 2018, my wife and I decided to quit our jobs and go on a long honeymoon. While I did all the planning, she did the packing and the shopping. From Dubai to Amsterdam, we covered 20 countries in 5 months. It has been one crazy journey, a journey that will forever remain very close and special to me.
Once we looked past the touristic crowd and the heat, we had a great time there. There are tonnes of Tourists all over the place, and the majority is GOT fans. But, the city is not just about the Game of Thrones location, it has a rich history and has a medieval charm to it as well.
Things to do in Dubrovnik
The old town is where you will find most of the GOT locations. You can either take a GOT tour or explore the locations on your own. I went crazy trying to analyze every corner of the old city and actually found some 15 locations of the exact scenes from GOT.
The city walls gave us a fantastic view of the sea-side and the mainland side of Dubrovnik. It also has a lot of history attached to it.
Cliff jumping is another must-do in Dubrovnik, at the Buza bar, i.e, if you manage to find it. Often referred to as the Hole in the wall, the Buza bar is a little tricky to find. But once you've crossed that hurdle, get ready to witness a breathtaking view of the Adriatic Sea. Besides, you will also get to see adrenaline junkies jump off the rocks. For us, it was a great spot to swim and make memories.
We couldn't get enough of Dubrovnik so we took a cable car and watched the city from above. The cable car dropped us off at Mount Srd where we got another amazing view of the city, its bays and nearby islands. We also got to watch the sunset from above.
Food - For such a small place, it has plenty of food options given the amount of tourists.
Barba: for their octopus burger
Tuttobenne : for their Shrimp pasta
LAJK restaurant: for their asparagus risotto
Sladolederna - for their Gelato
