2022 was a great year for travellers! Our Instagram was filled with offbeat locations, travel recommendations and cities that everyone loved. There are always a few countries that become the “IT” destination and everyone flocks to them, proving that sometimes following the crowd isn’t bad. Here are the top 10 destinations that Indians loved in the year 2022.
10) Spain
After the 3 lads who explored Spain for the Bachelor party, every single one of us wanted to follow their footsteps. So, not only did Spain as a country see a spike in their tourism by desis post Covid-19 or should I say post ZNMD, even the cities where the movie was shot were explored more than others. The highest peak of Desi tourism was around Tomatina and Spain loved welcoming us. Thank you ZNMD for the ultimate Spanish itinerary.
9) France
What more can be added to the ever-growing list of reasons why you should visit France? France will always be a Desi favourite. In 2022 many of us lived the dream of travelling to Paris even when the EU was not accepting tourist visas. I wonder if the rejection rate was as high as this and still many Desis made it, how many had applied. From basking under the French sun in Cote d’Azur to frolicking in the lavender fields, this year France was truly loved by Indians.
8) Iceland
I love Iceland and I know no one will ever hate it. From my first visit in 2018 when there was no tourism to the year 2022 when Iceland saw the maximum amount of tourist setting foot in their country, Iceland has become the "dream destination". Although expensive, many blogs have been written on how it can be done for cheap and gave Indians an opportunity to explore the land of ice and fire without breaking their bank account.
7) Dubai
Dubai is an evergreen destination. Do not know where to go? Dubai Chalo. With cheap flights from all the major hubs of India, Dubai instantly made the bucket list of many travellers this year.
6) Egypt
This year Indians were called by the Pharaos. And rightfully so. Egypt is a country that majorly runs on the tourism industry and it felt great to see them coming back up again post Covid-19 with a new wave: The Indian wave! The more you travel in Egypt the more you get amazed. Pyramids are just the tip of the iceberg. From getting lost in the temples of Luxor to the dunes of Siwa Oasis, Egypt is a gem that needed to be explored.
5) Turkey
A country that is a great combination of cheap, food and immersive travel. Turkey gives easy access to their country with quick e-visa procedures and cheap tickets. Do not forget the allure of the carpet market and the Hagia Sofia. Although the crowd's favourite will forever be Cappadocia where you can take the perfect shot for your Instagram. The watchful hot air balloon ride over the sleeping city waking up to the morning. Sign me up!
4) Bali
Who doesn’t enjoy the warm sun on their back and a pina colada in their hands? Bali is a place for everyone. Whether you are an adventure seeker or one who just likes to take it slow. Bali will offer something personalised to each one. From incredible hikes to the best white sand beaches, Bali is loved by Indians for a reason.
3) Maldives
This year Maldives put itself on the map, surpassing Bali for being the ultimate dive location. Crystal clear waters and very vivant wildlife under the sea make Bali a diver's heaven. But that’s not the only thing to enjoy, right? It will forever be the preferred location for our Indian honeymoon goers. A private beach, activities that are paid for by the resort and food that you cannot stop gorging on. Why wouldn’t it make the list?
2) Vietnam
Vietnam was "The Find" of this year's travel community. From small microbloggers to the biggest influencers, all of them made their way to the land of dragons. And with all good reasons. From the gorgeous backdrops of Halong bay to the dragon bridge of Da Nang, Vietnam was the perfect budget destination. A special mention will be made for Vietnamese coffee and if you haven’t thought of Vietnam as your next destination, this should be your sign.
1) Thailand
If Thailand did not make it to the list, I as a reader would call it fake. Thailand has been the favourite of the masses for the past last decade. The pristine beaches, warm Thai community and crazy parties have been inviting us forever. Every year Thailand sees a larger crowd than the previous visiting the islands. With that being said, Thailand even opened back its gates to Maya Bay after 5 years.
I visited Vietnam and Thailand for the first time and definitely see why they are the favourites this year. I live in France, so Ok and I visited various Spanish cities over the year, so I'll say my count is 3!
