Within life's intricate tapestry, there are junctures where we stand, gazing at the crossroads, yearning for self-connection, craving adventure, or simply thirsting for excitement. For those of us long bitten by the travel bug, these moments often beckon solo journeys. Yet, navigating solo travel on a budget presents its challenges, particularly in destinations like Dubai, brimming with glitz and glamour. Nevertheless, where there's a will, there are always hacks to uncover, ensuring that even the most dazzling destinations can be explored affordably and independently.

So, here are 5 things that have helped me enjoy Dubai, solo and on a budget.

1. Explore Malls: Window shopping hurts no pockets after all!

Malls may seem paradoxical when discussing budgeting, but who says we must splurge? They offer respite from the scorching sun, complimentary Wi-Fi (one of Dubai's charms), and the joy of window shopping! Feeling peckish? Why not explore grocery stores instead? My dear friend introduced me to Lulu in Dubai, and I was hooked! So, whether it's Lulu, Spinneys, or any other spot—choose based on your budget, convenience, and palate. There's a plethora of options awaiting exploration.

2. Head for a solo picnic

While you're on the hunt for budget-friendly food, why not grab your goodies and embark on a solo picnic? No need for those Instagram-worthy setups; true enjoyment lies in simplicity. Romanticize your life in the easiest way possible—sit in a public park with snacks from your bag, jot down thoughts in your notebook, head to the beach to watch the waves and people passing by. Plug in your earphones to tune out the world, or perhaps meditate to the soothing sound of the waves. After all, what sound could be better? Well, it's rhetorical—nothing beats the calming rhythm of the waves.

PS: I recently I packed a sandwich for myself to the beach, but best to carry easier to eat containers because seagulls unfortunately is not in our control

3. Walk into an art gallery or two...

One of the finest solo adventures in a new city is wandering into its museums or art galleries. Dubai boasts numerous stunning gallery spaces with free admission. You might discover captivating modern works and talented local artists. And if art isn't your thing, relish the leisurely stroll and snap some Instagram-worthy photos. Luckily, I'm someone who appreciates both experiences.

4. Choose public transport

For solo budget travelers, public transport is the ultimate choice. In Dubai, grab yourself a Nol card to navigate the city at your own pace and at a wallet-friendly cost. Whenever feasible, opt for walking. Dubai's pedestrian-friendly streets are well-organized, making it a breeze to explore on foot. Simply fire up Google Maps and let your feet lead the way!

5. Try mingling

Though I'm not the best person to offer this advice, I've always been curious about trying it. In the past, I've relied on travel groups to connect with like-minded individuals. However, as I've grown more comfortable exploring solo and dining alone, I've found myself less inclined to seek companionship. Yet, that's not the best practice. It's important to embrace more interaction. Consider using dating apps, joining travel groups, or investing in a guided tour. Not only does it enrich the experience with companionship, but it also helps split costs—especially when it comes to dining expenses, right?

What are your thoughts on the above pointers? Have you ever tried them out? Feel free to add more suggestions in comments!
