Diveagar Beach Reviews

A phone call at about four o'clock in the morning is usually not for good news. But that call from a friend was just not an ordinary one. It brought a good news of an unplanned trip to an unknown place called Diveagarin Raigad district of Maharashtra. Within half an hour I packed my backpack and set out on the journey. After a brief halt for delicious roadside breakfast and tea, we continued through the Maharashtra State Highway as we were a bunch of friends seeking out solitude and adventure. The trip was just mesmerizing with endless turns and twists. The autumn has painted the forests with flaming colours, the fields were filled with smiling farmers collecting their crops and may be sharing some jokes and the bright sunny day was just enough to fill my heart with hopes, expectations and relaxation after a tiring week. The wind in my hair...the sunrise ...the fresh morning glow of the sun.....oh what a beautiful journey that was! At about 11:30 we finally reached our much awaited destination -Diveagar. The dozing village was resembling a tiny fairy tale village spelled by some witch - sleeping for years. Before heading to nearby places we decided to rent a homestay and have some food. Now this was a bit tricky mainly because no one was there on the street or in front of the houses to whom we can approach for a room. Finally saw a lady in front of a house and she was willing to rent out her place to us. We settled down and asked her about food arrangements as the village does not have much restaurants. All the homestatys provide accommodation as well as food to the travellers. To our surprise she offered us one of the best meals that we have had in our lives - a sumptuous spread of rice, dal, Surmai fish fry and curry, solkadhi and top of it the unmatched hospitality of simple village folks.
From there our first destination was Diveagar, the divine gate(so as it means), a small coastal village with a long 4 kms of serene beach-line. Quite a few options were available in terms of water sports activities. The sleepy village is dotted with innumerable home stays, hotels and restaurants. I was surprised to see a luxury resort apart from the MTDC owned retreat which lies just by the beach. You can have an affordable home stay for as low as 500 and that too not very far away. The surrounding areas are well dotted by arecacnut trees(supari) which give the place a charm in itself. We couldn't stop ourselves from getting into the sea with the sun setting into it as if the place was a painting! You won't find people swarming to these beaches may be because these are still waiting to get explored by many. We were into the sea till it got a little dark and it seemed we are the last ones left out there. While returning to our stay we couldn't even spot the few snack shops which were set up by the villagers during the day time. The noise of the sea waves were so clearly evident. After taking a quick bath we decided to make our night stay a bit drunken but couldn't find the resources! After asking some fellow travellers we came to know about the place, Borle, 2 Kms from Diveagar, to get our drinks. Reaching there I was taken aback by the width of choices we could have in terms of the drinks. Needless to say that the night was long and we had a good sleep.
The locals will always give u amazing support even if u dont speak their language. The ride from Shrivardhan to Diveagaris through a thick forest ...and then u drive along the beach . It takes a little over an hour to reach Diveagar. The village is a beautiful spot between hills and ocean. Its not a place where u find big hotels and well finished roads. The local villagers have converted their homes into well furnished motels and the best part...u get to eat the best sea food ever. The place is so embedded in purity and chastity , its so unpolluted and clean , its so nice to escape the rush of the city and get in touch with roots . The village has many motels and they give u home made food cooked. You can stroll down the lanes of the village to find the relaxed rural life. The clean air and silent ambience is great. The beach of Diveagar is a Jackpot for people who love water sports and they are dirt cheap. The Locals organise them and they can arrange packages for these sports and u can contact them in motels itself. The beach is beautiful and not over polluted or populated. U can have hell lot of time and time passes like sand from ur hand. The spine-chilling water sports is definetly for people who can brave them ( I like my feet firmly on the ground).
After having sometime on the beach we started driving to another famous beach Diveagar. A wonderful drive on the coastal road for around 30 min. This isolated road runs parallel to the sea with the cliff on one side and the sea, just off the cliff, as far as you can see, on the other side. The road stretches for a good 30 kms affording views of virgin beaches, fishing villages, natural rock formations etc. You will drive by some of the virgin beaches like Aaravi beach & Kondvil beach. If you are a fan of seafood, then the fish market of Bharadkhol is for you..!! you can make a quick stop in Bharadkhol fish market while going to Diveagar. Every morning about 8, the fisher boat ported near this village. from here Diveagar is just 7 km ..!! Diveagar shot up in popularity after a serendipitous discovery of a golden mask of the elephant god Ganesha. Diveagar has long stretch of black sand beach and village is full of beetle nuts, jack fruits and banana plantains. The access to the beach is covered with "Belu" plants and looks like a fence of the beach. Lord Suvarnaganesha temple is the main attraction of tourist visit. We were unfortunate that, couldn't able to visit the temple. However, we kept it for our next trip..!!
