Day 1

So, I was posted to Shillong aka Scotland of the East on 03 Jan 18. Since my arrival the first thing came to strike my head is to heading for Dawki, and with this posting it seems to be going true.

In the month of February, we of 4 people decided to explore this beautiful place along with Mawnlyong- cleanest village in Asia in 2014, then living root bridge then Bangladesh border and finally to view mesmeric beauty at Dawki. We took a small cab for 1500 from Eastern Air Command and started at 8 am. Enroute view and weather was fantastic and to my surprise temperature at Dawki is very high compared to upper Shillong. Before start I was heavily protected by winter clothing and after 1 hour of journey I had to took off my jacket. our first stop was at cleanest village Mawnlyong- and realized how people are concerned about cleanliness and hygiene. After that we headed to Living root bridge and after some 200 steps we get down to this amazing natural bridge and witnessed charismatic creativity of nature. After spending 30 minute we headed towards Bangladesh border and took off some pic with border gate depicting- India Bangladesh Maitri dwar. After spending 30 minutes at border and having conversation with BSF personnel We finally reached to Dawki, my dream destination of north east. It was sunny day and serene beauty of Dawki river was absolutely stunning. While enroute toward Dawki river, from road it looks majestic and divine. Even words can't describe that serene view. We took a colourful boat after negotiating at 700 bucks, sailed into river for 30 to 40 minutes. As it was about to sunset view from boat was just fantastic and clear sky was just like cherry on the cake. we took a dip in river for 15 min and after that decided to head back to our base. So a beautiful day came to end. We carried our packed food along with us as we generally avoid outside food, so no idea about the enroute restaurant. After spending almost 2 year in Shillong I came to know that it is full of hidden treasures for nature lovers. Even covered almost all the hot tourist destinations in Meghalaya, I still feel there is much to do and explore this beautiful place. Thanks.
