Daman is a perfect and quick weekend getaway from Mumbai. It was one one of those lazy afternoons that I along with a couple of my friends decided to go on a drive to Daman the next day.

We started on a Sunday morning from Mumbai. A day trip to Daman is not a tiring one at all. The roads are decent, with a lot of food stops along the highway.

The first thing which caught my eye right after entering Daman, is that it is absolutely spic and span, unlike many other tourist places of India.

As we entered Moti-Daman, we were greeted with Portuguese style buildings in and around the place. We headed towards the Moti-Daman fort. We passed the moat on the southern side of the fort from the Land Gate. The gate opened to an experience of the era gone by!! The Vintage Portuguese styled buildings are now the government offices which are painted in bright blues, yellows and reds.

The Sea Gate opens to the Daman Ganga river which meets the Arabian Sea. Though the dilapidated state of the fort calls for an immediate restoration, the architecture is undoubtedly beautiful!

Spot me!!!

A walk in and around the fort is more like a history tour with fascinating old boats and buildings.

”Streets of Moti-Daman”

Getting there: Its a 2.5 hours drive from Mumbai by Road. There are no direct Buses and trains. If you want to go by Train, take Gujarat express from Mumbai to Udvada then take a taxi to Daman.

Beaches: Talking of the Daman shores, I would not be too appreciative of the waters there per se (Somehow I find the Mumbai shoreline much better). But if you want to snack over some reasonable priced foods & beverage while watching a calm expanse of water, this might serve the purpose. For first timers who want to try parasailing and other activities, Daman gives you a chance to try a level 1 at it. Checkout Jampore beach and Devka beach.

Stay Options: There some really nice resorts with Private beaches. You can check out the options here Best resorts in Daman. I found few decent homestay's on AirBnb as well.

Happy tripping!! Do let me know in the comments if you know of any other quick weekend getaway from Mumbai. Would love to explore.
