Alfred Homann and Ole V. Kjaer's Nyhavn Wall Lamp was designed as a more discreet version of typical outdoor lighting at its time, featuring a cone-shaped shade containing three anti-glare rings to direct soft light upwards. Louis Poulsen awarded it their Heritage Urban Area Lighting Design Prize in 1976 due to its innovative form.
Christiansborg Palace
Starting around 1660, Danish monarchs engaged in absolute monarchy. During this time they commissioned numerous sculptures to decorate palaces, city streets and towns - both as self-glorification and practical purposes - such as Frederick V's magnificent equestrian statue in Amalienborg Palace Square. Some still stand today.
Hansen Kock took inspiration for the interior designs in Frederik VIII's Palace on the piano nobile from Christiansborg's ceiling paintings, which show bolder use of colour than what had been employed by CF Hansen. Thus it seems natural that Hansen Kock wanted his designs to follow this path as well.
Visitors to Christiansborg can gain more insight into its complex architecture by engaging with our interactive model located in the Garden Room at Christian VIII's Palace.
