Reasons to visit Coorg

  • Coffee : The only sensible reason to come here is coffee. Pure Arabica, Chicory mixed or Robusta, so many different types and fresh from the plantation. Coorg produces 60% of the coffee in India, and of course you can get spices, slabs.. no kidding SLABS of chocolate for as cheap as 120 bucks. You get local masalas, pickles, tea, pepper etc as well.. so for all the organic stuff, head to coorg. You’ll know the difference when you taste the coffee. It doesn’t taste like our regular stuff back in the city. You can also visit the plantations and have a tour, know how coffee is produced, and even pepper for that matter.

  • Resorts : Coorg has all those expensive resorts and hotels where one can splurge, and make your trip worth it. Most of them are between Madikeri ( the main town ) and Kushal Nagar ( 30 kms apart )

 Reasons to not visit Coorg

  • Overrated : It is not Scotland of India. I have no idea who named it so. Plantations are pretty, but they are way more prettier in other parts of the country ( Munnar, for instance) . The view is really not that great, you could actually go to Lonavala and get a better view there.
  • Crowded : Its buzzing with tourists, like Shimla. Its an extremely overrated tourist destination, with literally no decent tourist spot. 'Rajas’s seat' has an okay view and the famous ‘Abbey Falls’ is literally the saddest waterfall ever. You cant even go and take a dip in the water. You have to stand and observe it from a distance. There are milliooonns of people trying to fit in that little space for pictures and selfies. Its such a tired waterfall I swear. Rest of the tourist spots like Mandalpatti view point, Nisargadhama.. nothing very unusual or impressive.

  •  Food : There are hardly any good food options. No cafes, only restaurants serving Coorg cuisine ( Mostly non veg ) and North Indian – South Indian food. Food is most definitely better at the hotels, which serve all kinds of cuisines.

In all, people who don’t travel much, it would prove to be a good getaway.. For those of you who travel on a regular basis, Coorg for you would be a weekend at one of the beautiful resorts, getting a spa done and trying our different coffee beans.
Money wise, For families, a big yes! For backpackers, head to Mysore!
