There are so many unexplored destinations in Around Manali too..

If you are looking for touristy ones, then go for Manali or Shimla. If picking Manali then would recommend to stay in Vashsist, a small village but it's worth staying there.
If you want to explore and looking for a bit untouched places, then would recommend Chitkul, Sangla, Kalpa or any place in Chamba valley. They are serene and very beautiful villages in himachal.

For family with children, i think shimla-kufri and corbett-nainital is the best.
