Good news for passengers seeking to travel abroad on an Indian passport. Thank god, 2022 is not only about Omicron and partial lockdowns!
India’s passport ranking has jumped to 83rd position this year as compared to last year’s 90th rank. Indians are now free to travel to 60 countries without obtaining a prior visa.
Latest on the list are nations like Oman and Armenia, where Indians can now fly directly and have access to their land without a visa. Isn’t that great?
But for globe trotters like us, it’s still isn’t a thing to be proud of. Because most of the nations that are offering Indians visa-free access are amongst the ones that are either highly dependent on tourism or have struggling economy.
Above all, can you see the irony? These 60 listed countries that are now offering Indians visa-free access are one of those that are not even known to 95% of the Indian population. This indirectly says a lot about the Indian passport’s global reputation.
Do you really think our passport has got stronger?
Well if you ask us, we’d say it’s not yet a moment to celebrate and India needs to amp up its game on the global ranking index until we achieve visa-free access to at least 150-190 countries in the world.
