We all are aware of the tough times Himachal Pradesh went through recently. It was heartbreaking to witness one of our favourite mountain destination and its people go through the floods and landslides. And to top it with more pain the tourism industry has been affected deeply due to the lack of tourists caused by the catastrophe.
Himachal Pradesh tourism suffered a shocking INR 2,000 crore loss!
It was a shock to me when I learnt that only in two months of the monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh tourism suffered a loss of INR 2,000 crores! Just as everyone was enjoying going to the mountain for their quick weekend holidays, taking momo and chai breaks, the downpour caused a major setback.
Influx of devotees in Himachal's six 'Shakti Peeths'
The only good thing that happened lately was when there was an influx of approximately 8.24 lakh pilgrims who visited Chintpurni, Sri Naina Devi, Jawalaji, Brajeshwari, Sri Baglamukhi and Chamunda Devi shrines.
All of the pilgrims were seen visiting the state in a short span during the during the time of Navratri from August 17 to 25.
Hopes of tourism industry in Himachal to recover by October
Although a lot of losses have been endured by the tourism industry in Himachal Pradesh, there is still hope that things will recover by October. In case you are wondering about the roads which got washed away during the floods, the routes have been diverted from another way.
Discounts on hotels in Himachal to increase footfall
After all the loss suffered by the tourism industry - the hotels, guides, taxi drivers and local business owners, the authorities hope that tourists start visiting again. All hope is set on the G20 taking place in September. Hoping that this huge event will promote tourism in Himachal as well diverting international and national tourists to take a vacation in the mountains.
