Often been regarded as Shimla of Chhattisgarh, Mainpat is something that got my attention sometimes back when I saw a video of it on YouTube. Well to everybody’s surprise it is a hill station located near Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh. Mainpat is not only famous for its stupefying hills and drooling natural scenery but also for its magical and scientifically challenging activities and events happening there.

Often been regarded as “Mini Tibet”, this hill station is located in Sarjuga district in Chhattisgarh. After the Chinese invasion in 1963, Tibetan refugees were given a place here to settle and that is how the Tibetan culture got developed here.

Best time to Visit: I would say if you want to enjoy the cool weather then from October to March is the best time to visit. April to June is dedicated to summers and July to September might be a good time to visit during monsoon since it would be lush green out there.

How to Reach:

By Air: The nearest airport is Raipur (around 330Kms) which is the state capital.

By Train: Ambikapur is the nearest railway station which is around 60kms from Mainpat.

By Road: Again Ambikapur is around 60 km from Mainput and takes about 1.5 hrs.

Places to Visit:

1. Tiger Point- This is one of the beautiful and scenic water of Mainpat. It was believed that tigers use to come here a few years back hence the name Tiger Point came. One can take the staircase to reach the bottom of the fall. You will spot few monkeys around here waiting for you to provide them snacks like Bhutta(Corn), etc. The place is around 12kms from the village centre. The parking fee is Rs 20/- INR.

Pro Tip: Do try Bhutta (Corn) here. They are so delicious and soft.

2. Fish Point- This is another place that offers a panoramic view of hills. Machali Nadi is the name given to the river flowing here. This place is around 15kms from the village centre.

3. Mehta Point- This place is perfect for sunrise and sunset. This is around 8 km from the main market and offers a panoramic view of nature. We went late so we were not able to witness it.

Imagine Sunrise and Sunset from here

4. Dhakpo Monastery- Since many people from Tibet have settled here in Mainpat it is justified to say that the monastery exists here. It is a small Gelug monastery.

Small Monastery

5. Ultapaani- Yes, you heard it right. There is a small stream of water that flows uphill against gravity. Make a paper boat and try it for yourself. We did it and it was going upwards.

6. Magnetic Hill- Just adjacent to Ultapani, Mainpat has its magnetic hill like Leh. Well, we stopped the car and put it up in neutral and we saw a car going upwards. It was one of experience.

7. Jaljali or Daldali. Now, this is one unique experience that I won’t forget. Land acts as a trampoline. When you jump on the ground it shakes as if there is an earthquake. So yes the land here shakes or you bounce like a trampoline when you jump over it. It is although not a magical thing since it is a wetland where the upper layer of soil is thick and the lower layer has water. So it shakes.

Hence this was all about Mainpat. Any questions or queries do feel free to contact me. Do like share and subscribe my social media accounts for amazing stuff.
