I had heard of this place long time back ( Chitrakoot Falls, Chhattisgarh) and i used to wonder if I would pay a visit someday. Finally, last weekend I decided as this was the peak monsoon time, and I am glad that I took up this decision.
I started from Hyderabad , took a train to Durg ( Direct train to Jagdalpur is also available) but I had to meet my friend over there, so I took this route. Then a bus to Jagdalpur that would take around 8 hours to reach there.
If you are planning to visit Chitrakoot Falls, make sure you make your hotel bookings in advance. There is one Dandami Resort just adjacent to the falls from where you can have a glimpse of the falls from the balcony itself. It's such an enchanting experience of witnessing the massive falls at night with the lights. You could hear the sound of the falls while sleeping, it acts as a meditation to the ears.
Now coming to the places we covered, do visit the Tirathgarh falls first. Go down to the passage where you can have a bath in the falls. The scene looks so awesome that you will be lost seeing the heavy flow of water falling down.
There is a very beautiful cave also near Tirathgarh but it was closed that time. ( See the pictures )
Then after that head towards the Chitrakoot Falls and you will be amazed to see that. It's such a lovely environment. There is a temple next to it, you will hear the chants in the temple plus the sounds of the falling water in the falls. You can get very close to the falls and take pictures and videos, but be safe. The flow and the expanse is so massive, no doubt it is called the 'Niagra Falls Of India' .
