Chhattisgarh, a state in Central India, is gifted with luxuriant forest canopies, plenty of waterfalls and famous temples. Visiting this place during monsoon may have the disadvantage of closed national parks, but forest looks best with his lover, the rain. This monsoon, I along with my good old buddies backpacked for the weekend destination to Jagdalpur, a small city in the tribal district of Bastar, Chhattisgarh. This region once experienced considerable Naxalite-Maoist insurgency and part of the infamous red corridor of India. Fear apart, this place becomes rejuvenating and graceful with the advent of the rain.
From Jagdalpur railway station, we started for Chitrakoot falls. On the way, we visited the Bastar Palace decorated in blue white colour and a sample copy of Danteswari temple, adjacent to the palace complex. The original Danteswari temple is situated at a distance of about 84 km from the city and is considered as one of the 51 "Shakti pithas " in India. The myth says that a tooth of Devi Sati fell at this place while Lord Vishnu cut her body into 51 parts using his Sudarshana Chakra.
Taking a break at Dalpatsagar lake and after cleaning our sins at few more temples, like Venkateswara Swami temple (dedicated to Lord Balaji), Basoor temple (sandstone idol of Lord Ganesha), we reached at Dandami resort, located at the left bank of Indravati river. From the balcony of our room we were able to enjoy the magnificent view of the Chitrakote waterfalls. The rhythmic sound of the waterfall, the chirping of the little birds, the rains, the lush greenery beyond the river line will take your soul to a peaceful meditative stage immediately. After lunch we went near the waterfall, and truly the monsoon has awaken a giant, its so mighty and spectacular, no doubt armatures compare it with the Niagara falls.
The next day we started with suicide point, this place justifies its name, every edge of the valley can make your soul rest forever, still its a peaceful and beautiful landscape.
Next spot is a small waterfall named Chitradhara in the midst of lush green village. On the way, I have noticed an interesting fact about the houses here, the houses are fenced with stones perfectly fitted one into another, without any glue of cement and interestingly giving birth to plants in between the stones, their roots can perfectly work as the natural cementing for the walls.
Next we moved towards the last destination of our journey, the Tirathgarh waterfall. This is a completely differently shaped waterfall. The masterly artisan, NATURE, carved the rocks skilfully so that the water falls in a systematic manner, just like white uniformed soldiers on a march in full vigour. It looks majestic!! Don't forget to take a view from the top, the water after falling to the ground runs like an unruly young lad, cutting the dense green canopy. The ruin of an age old temple, the cloudy sky, the lush green forest, the waterfall, the sound will create a magic and can take your imaginary mind to the prehistoric age.
