Chandigarh ranks well on the list of country’s favourite places for partying. Now, the union territory is set to raise the bar with a new party boat at Sukhna Lake. Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) is working towards bringing in an 80-seater battery/solar operated party boat at the lake.
CITCO Managing Director Jasvinder Kaur has declared that a new luxury cruise will be launched within three to four months, and its management will be assigned based on a tender that is likely to be out soon. It was stated that CITCO also has plans to purchase four new shikaras (houseboats) from Jammu and Kashmir. If reports are to be believed, the CITCO management has already requested the authorities of J&K seeking permission to purchase and transport these houseboats to Chandigarh.
It is quite likely that the boat will be available for hosting small private parties on occasions and the fares will be fixed at per hour or 2-hour basis. The eatables will be supplied and managed by the CITCO. The Lakewiew authorities will have the final word in deciding the total run-time per day for the attraction.
CITCO Chief Geberal Manager mentioned that this would be a first for Sukhna Lake where a luxury party boat will be operating. Expectations run high with this initiative and city’s tourism is likely to rise significantly once the operation starts. The fares for entry on the boat are yet to be finalised.
Sources report that party boat with terrace will be eco-friendly and also have lighting arrangement for operations during night, as dark hours would be the key highlight of this venture to expand tourism. The agency ultimately responsible for taking charge of the boat will also be held responsible for keeping the boat in running condition at all times.
With these plans soon coming to life, ‘The City Beautiful’ might just become the next big thing in India in terms of partying and a vibrant night life. Take note, metropolises!
