Whenever one searches online for best places to visit in Goa, there's rarely any list or itinerary which doesn't mention DudhSagar Waterfalls. However most of them just talk about how beautiful the waterfall is. While the waterfall in itself is indeed wonderful primarily owing to the mesmerizing views & abundance of nature around.
Lately, there is a lot of hype regarding the Dudhsagar trek stating that it is closed for the general public. It is brought to the notice that the Dudhsagar railway trek has been closed officially for the general public. If you still manage to sneak then Three routes would help you to reach there. The first option is when you start the trek from Kulem and follow the jeep trail until you reach the bottom of the waterfall, which is not possible during rainy & this season. The second option is when you enter the base of the waterfall through the railway track. Or walk through from mollem railway track, If you wish to, then you can trek up to the Sonaulim station and then join the way back to the Mud route. Therefore, this route would help you save 2 km on the Mud road. The third option is continue walking on track until you reach your destination.
As it's a apart of deep forest there are many wild animals so trek back before it's dark. Also, Cunning hungry monkeys are all around the place so keep your belongings intact. Speaking on experience as we got looted brutally, monkey king unzipped one of our bag right in-front of me. later most of our food packets was stolen away & we could just stared at the gang.
You will not find fresh drinking water and restroom facilities in the proximity of the falls and the rail stop.
The walk is made a bit tough because of the presence of a 200-meter train tunnel which is entirely dark with endless numbers of blood sucking leeches.
One of the leech had feast on my blood that day ! So be careful...
The gushing water from the streams creates an illusion of milk flowing through the mountains. The strong currents and rushing sound of water subdue all other unnecessary chatter from your mind. A light shower from the Dudhsagar waterfall on your face can make all the chaos of life seem insignificant.
The Indian Railways has banned the passengers from boarding or de-boarding the train at the Dudhsagar railway stop.
But we were fortunate enough that we got a train which was on track inspection and the Loco driver was so friendly he allowed us to hoop-on on his own risk. The journey was truly one of kind, which we will cherish it forever.
The station which is near and accessible to the falls is Castle Rock station. This railway stop of Dudhsagar is not a station where passengers can keep their expectation high regarding a platform. The passengers along with the visitors are required to climb the rail compartment's steep ladder that too in about 1-2 minutes stop which is unscheduled. The visitors are expected to walk a kilometer on the tracks from the rail stop to reach the falls.
Also, you will not find cellular power and road transportation access so be mentally prepared for thrilling advanced journey.
Do watch trail video of trek to Dudhsagar.
