A little piece of charming kingdom in South East Asia. It will be unfair to visit south east Asia and not go to Cambodia. During the day you can visit numerous awe inspiring temples of Angkor Wat and at night you can leisurely take a stoll in Night Bazar, binge on local food, indulge in relaxing foot spa sessions or shop till you drop.
Here are some top attractions that you should visit :
1. Angkor Wat : Make sure to visit at sunrise. It looks breathtaking in those orangish pink hues.
2. Bayon Temple : Also known as face temple, due to its iconic huge faces which are around 200 in number. Definitely my favorite temple
3. Victory Gate : It is one of a kind magnificent gateway in the eastern wall of Angkor Thom. Make sure to stop for a bit while passing through this gate to appreciate its beauty.
4. Ta Phrom : Popularly known as "Tom Raider Temple", looks like it has been swallowed by the jungle. It is here you will see iconic tree roots engulfing the temple.
5. Ta Som : My travel tip is to visit this one as it is similar to Ta Phrom and has fewer crowds so you get ample opportunity to photograph it.
6. There are few other temples which are outside Angkor Wat temple complex. If you wish you can do a half-day trip to Banteay Srei & Beng Mealea.
Where to stay :
Siem Reap offers wide range of options for travellers right from budgeted hostels to luxurious hotels with pristine pools or you can choose to get your own place through airbnb.
Tickets to temple :
There are 3 types of tickets available -
1 day pass for 37 USD.
3 days pass for 62 USD which can be used over a period of 10 days.
7 days pass for 72 USD which can be used over a period of 30 days.
How to get around :
Motorbikes & Ṭuk-Tuk are the cheapest of options to get around. You can get a Ṭuk-Ṭuk/Motorbikes easily on the spot or you can make a deal with the Tuk-Ṭuk guy a day prior at Pub street. It costs around 15-20 USD for an entire day trip where Tuk-Tuk takes you to different temples within the Angkor complex.
