Yes...you read it right! One can actually visit a place where the Holy Family with an infant Jesus Christ lived in!
Cairo is an ancient city with multiple histories. While the star attractions are the ancient Egyptian mummies with their immense wealth and massive pyramids, the city has also been a cradle (literally in this case!) for many religions.
The old city tour of Cairo can be split into the Islamic city tour and the Coptic city tour. The Coptic Christians of Cairo are said to be the descendants of the ancient Egyptians (Coptic is in fact the ancient Greek word for Egypt) and they follow one of the oldest orders of Christianity.
The link with Jesus Christ:
Egypt is dotted with places where the Holy Family rested as they escaped from King Herod with baby Jesus. Most of these spots have been converted to churches and the cavern outside old Cairo where they are believed to have stayed for three months was eventually converted into the Abu Serga church which is one of the oldest churches in Egypt. While the church has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, it still marks the direct association with Christ. This place is one of the must-see attractions in Cairo.
