This well-known saying has always been the motto of our lives! So, we tried to eat almost everything that Egypt had to offer from the aromatic Egyptian tea to the hot crispy falafel and much more. So here is a comprehensive list of the must eats while you are in Egypt.

Tea & Coffee - Egyptian mornings usually start with refreshing cup of tea or strong cup of coffee. Note, that both the tea and the coffee needs to settle down (don’t stir it). What remains is to be sipped. Our Air BNB host at Luxor guided us to buy the perfect pack of Egyptian tea.

When in Khan-el-khalili do not miss the coffee at the legendary El Fishawy Café.

Breakfast - Egyptian breakfast commonly consist of eish bread, mashed fava beans, falafel, aubergine (brinjal) fry, salad with hummus and tahini sauce.

Shish taouk - If you are a meat lover, you can try the traditional marinated chicken kebab, shish taouk.

Lunch - To enjoy a wholesome Egyptian lunch we ordered fried fish, dal (lentil soup), eish bread, Kushari, a curry made of potatoes and tomatoes, aubergine (brinjal) fry, chilli beef, chicken, salad with hummus and tahini sauce. Along with it we ordered hibiscus and sugar cane juice.

Snacks - Only foodies will realize the joy of snacking while travelling. We a had the delicious Sahlab (middle eastern milk pudding) and juicy shawarmas at local cafés.

Kushari-available at any food joint all over Egypt [20-30 LE or 80-120 INR]

Kushari - Available at almost all the food joints, one cannot miss the national dish of Egypt – Kushari. It is a combination of rice, macaroni and lentils which is meant to be have with a spiced tomato sauce. You can also top it with the meat of your choice.

Dinner - A homely dinner arranged by our host in Luxor, Egypt allowed us to again indulge into the following Egyptian delicacies: fried fish with tahini sauce and salad, Kushari served with a vegetable curry, molokhiya (a green soup) and fish curry. [Cost approx 300LE or 1200 INR for 4 people]

Desserts - Can anyone resist dessert even after a delicious meal? Atleast we cant! So the wide range of Kunafas that Egypt offers, one must try at least one of each kind. Don't miss out the various Egyptian chocolates, specially the date chocolates!
