It's no wonder that India has so many places which are hidden and underrated. Rajasthan is such a state which has a rich history and without paying a visit to Rajasthan, India trip is incomplete. Bundi is a place which is unique and rare in nature and not much popular among tourists. This place offers some good pocket friendly budget stays, environment is good here and mark my words like anywhere in Rajasthan, locals are so friendly.
Raniji Ki Baoli
Raniji Ki Baoli is a piece of magnificent art which was constructed in 1699. It is a beautiful stepwell. Rani Nathavati started building this stepwell as humanitarian work. This place was saved from invaders since it a hidden between mountains and almost buried under land slide.
Lake Side, Bundi
Initially lake was constructed to provide water to town and with the time passes it is only a water body and home of fishes. Nawal Sagar is the mainstay of old city and has a partially inundated temple of Varuna, the god of water, who is worshipped there. You can take an early morning or evening walk on lake side and click some social media pictures. There are few other small places near lake and some good restaurants as well. April and October is the time when you can witness Lotus flowers in lake.
Garh Mahal
Plan a visit to Bundi's Garh Palace to see the murals and frescoes made by Hada Rajputs decades ago. On of the Hada Kings had set-up the Hadoti School of Painting during the 17th to 19th centuries. This royal school put Bundi on the map of India for its distinct style of Rajasthani miniature paintings. The paintings are made in rich colors and show scenes from royal celebrations and daily life. Several miniature paintings are seen at the 17th century Garh Palace and 18th century Chitrashala building which is a part of the next-door Ummed Palace.
Local Market and villages
Don't forget to explore locally to sink into the culture of the place and taste some local delicacy. Bundi local villages are famous for pottery on ceramic water pots. All the villages are equally good with hospitality and warm welcoming. Seeing traditional home should be on your list.
Please make sure you travel responsibly and keep the place litter free.
