One evening back from work, I saw this hoarding of Lufthansa with a Pink Lake. They had featured the one in Mexico but I found one much closer to India. What's better, I could swim in it too. And it also happens to be where Viktor Krum went to school ! (Harry Potter fans, you would have guessed where by now)
Welcome to Atanasovsko Lake in Burgas, Bulgaria.
Now, the reason why this has been a well-kept secret is because this is a large lake with only a part of it pink. The pink section of the lake is near Burgas Saltworks.
The lye and mineral salts in the water impart the pink colour to the lakes. And due to the salts, the mud is considered to be therapeutic.
You'll find people soaking in the pink waters, covering themselves up in mineral mud and then washing it all off in the Black Sea nearby. A natural pink lake spa - doesn't that sound like a perfect bucket list item ? And if frolicking in the mud isn't your cup of tea, there are nearby places that offer massages/spa treatments too.
