Uttarakhand is renowned for its Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in close proximity to Almora. Every time I envision the mountains and the forest, I'm transported to the fragrant aroma of the trees and the delightful sounds of chirping birds. Especially as the air begins to cool, it serves as a wonderful respite from the bustling city life.

Many of you might have had the opportunity to explore this verdant haven, blessed with a rich diversity of wildlife. Nestled in Uttarakhand, Binsar offers breathtaking mountain vistas and an abundance of plant and animal life. And soon, you might be able to plan exciting safaris and bike rides within the sanctuary, as Binsar is considering launching jungle safaris for visitors!

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a stunning and ecologically diverse region located in the state of Uttarakhand, India, spanning across an area of 45.59 square kilometers. It stretches from an elevation of 900 meters to 2500 meters above sea level and boasts a rich array of animal species, birdlife, as well as unique plants and trees native to the area.

Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary holds historical significance as it once served as the summer capital for the Chand Kings, who governed over Kumaon from the 11th to the 18th centuries AD. Today, it is a sanctuary teeming with a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, leopards, chital, monal pheasants, musk deer, bears, and wild boars.

In the near future, there could be an exciting opportunity for you to embark on a jungle safari in Binsar. The forest department has put forward a proposal for a Rs. 12 crore project to introduce jungle safari and bike riding experiences within the sanctuary, akin to the offerings at the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

The anticipation is that this proposal will gain government approval within the upcoming three months. Presently, visitors are limited to exploring the forest solely on foot.

The introduction of jungle safaris and bike riding will provide tourists with an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the sanctuary's natural beauty and rich biodiversity. Bike riding adventures will commence from the Kasardevi Eco Park, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience.

How to reach Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary?

By Air: The nearest airport to Binsar is the Pantnagar Airport located 152 km away from the city center.

By Rail: Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Binsar located at a distance of 119 km from the city center.

By Road: Binsar is well connected to major towns in Uttarakhand and cities in northern India via well maintained motorable roads.

Best time to visit: March to June and October to December

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary Entry Fee and Timings:

Main Entry Fee:

Indian Nationals: INR 150 per person

Students: INR 75 per person

Foreign Nationals: INR 600 per person

Vehicle Fee:

Medium Vehicle: INR 500 + INR 250 (base fare)

Heavy Vehicle: INR 800 + INR 250 (base fare)

Timings: The Binsar park is open for tourists daily from 9 AM to 7:30 PM.
