If you are planning a trip to visit the Ganga river, you might just be the early bird to experience the Ro-Ro (Roll-on Roll-off) vessels. When I heard the name, 'Ro-Ro' I was confused wondering is it a hop on hop off bus? But to my surprise it a boat service to be introduced in Patna in a week's time! Let's get to know what this new service is all about.

What to expect from the new Ro-Ro service?

The new concept of 'roll-on roll-off' vessel service will take place on the Digha Ghat-JP Ganga Path route. The purpose of this initiative is to promote river tourism so that tourists can residents both can enjoy the beauty of the Ganga river.

Making four to five trips in a day, the vessel will accommodate 300 people at a given time. It's certainly a unique way to explore the place.

Prices for the Roll-on Roll-off

Although the vessel is set to start the trips soon, the prices have not been fixed yet. But it is expected to see the prices at a nominal, something on the lines of MV Ganga Vihar being approximately INR 300 per person.

This service will begin in Patna within a week's time and the next one will be in Bhagalpur. The Forest Department wants to make sure no harm will be caused to the Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary and the service will begin upon their green signal.

In case you aren't aware a fun fact is that there are endangered Gangetic dolphins in the area which is why the department is looking out for their safety.

So if you are planning a trip to Bihar anytime soon, make sure you try out the Ro-Ro in Patna and Bhagalpur. A new concept of promoting the river tourism at Ganga river is certainly one that one must try out!
