I reached Bagdogra airport on 16th Oct and headed off to hotel Royal Sarovar Portico ( as good as it sounds) in Siliguri. The riders had already started arriving a day before. The lot seemed excited and curious as most of the people were riding with RE for the first time. Gear scrutiny was conducted thoroughly.Post lunch there was a highly informative First Aid session organised by the Rashtriya Life Saving Society followed by tour briefing by the RE guys.
On 17th we all geared up and gathered for the flag off. The ride began with great enthusiasm crossing small towns and villages. We passed flat lands , agro fields , tea gardens and meandering roads leading to water bodies with small bridges. The cloudy hills in the north were a constant background . Although we started late we managed to reach Phuntsholing (border town) through Binaguri and Jaigaon, before time.
The thrill and joy of riding is growing with the mile and the brotherhood has started building up amongst riders.
Bhutan looks as peaceful and beautiful as it could be.
A good start to a great trip ahead.
