Phuentsholing - Paro - Thimphu - Punakha
What an awesome way to end the year 2018, than with a trip to Bhutan – Land of Dragons. Any trip which takes less planning, always ends up to be a lifetime experience one, so was the awesome trip to Bhutan with my friend Shinjana. Like-minded people always connect and so was this incredible journey with my friend who I just met at the beginning of this year at Hampi and we closed down this year with yet another mesmerizing Bhutan trip.
So the journey all began with a road trip from Kolkata to Siliguri and then heading towards Jaigoan (Indian side of Bhutan) and there it stands the Bhutan Gate which separates these two countries. Phuentsholing is on the Bhutan side.
Once the permit was sorted out, the journey began with two other awesome travelers from the permit office to Paro, the first destination in Bhutan. At Paro, we stayed at Hotel Phunsum which was such a lovely place to stay with a temperature dropping to -8 celsius that night.
Journey begun with lovely breakfast and local Suja Butter tea, Bhutanese special to start off with.
Drukgyal Dzong was the first place we visited followed by Rinpung Dzong, which had such a beautiful and mesmerizing architecture. In these places, we get to see the actual culture and customs which they follow. Kichu Lhakhang is another must visit place at Bhutan and not be missed.
Everyone is so friendly and down to earth that you just can’t get enough of such lovely places and people.
When in Bhutan, must need to try their local wines Peach wine, Takin wine, Arah wine and Spy wine. Taste that you get there, you will not find the same anywhere else.
Second day at Paro, started off with the early morning trek to Paro Taktsang. We were joined by two other cool travelers Saurabh and Sujoy who are from Pune basically. Treks are always awesome, but this one was a trek to remember forever now. Little bit of trek and halting for wonderful clicks and starting the journey again, this was the agenda which we followed.
Once we come close to the 2nd view point, there we get to see the beauty standing on the cliff of the Paro Valley, what a sight it was. Awesome architecture and a must visit place in Bhutan, as without visiting this place trip is not complete.
I love to follow the tradition and culture where ever I go, so in Bhutan and dint try their costume Kira is just not complete.
With a heavy heart we leave to Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan. Thimphu is yet another beautiful place to visit in Bhutan.
Especially the roads, they did not have any traffic signal but still the people were so organized and disciplined in the way they commute. This is the first place where Zebra crossing makes true sense and adds meaning.
Thimphu also has many beautiful places to add to your kitty. You can visit the magnificent Buddha Dordenma statue, Memorial Chorten and Chanangkha Lhakhang. From Buddha Dordenma, you can get the view of Thimphu city and its beauty.
Punakha is also another place to visit in Bhutan but inorder to go there one needs to make a permit in Thimphu, but it is very beautiful place and a must visit place from Thimphu. Once you apply for permit, it takes two hours to get processed.
So we had the permit to go to the final destination Punakha in Bhutan. Dochula Pass was the first place we visited on our route which was covered with snow, was a delight to be there in a foggy morning and later moved to Bhochu Suspension bridge, over Bhochu River which flows along Mochu River near Punakha Dzong.
Punakha is a place not to be missed at any cost because of the eternal beauty of the place.
Cheers to amazing 2019.. Keep travelling.. :-)
