Nandankanan Zoological Park Reviews

4.Nandankanan Zoological Park- It takes 40 minutes to travel from Khandagiri to Nandankanan Zoo. Nandankanan Zoo is a very popular destination in Bhubaneswar. The zoo is vast and well maintained. The entry tickets can be booked online as well. The jungle safaris offered are White Tiger safari, Lion Safari, Bear Safari and Herbivore Safari. The ticket for these four safaris cost Rs. 60 per person. There is also a botanical garden and a lake in its vicinity. Since the zoo is vast, battery operated vehicles are available to take you around for a fee. Their tickets are available at the entry gate and also inside the zoo. The place is a very good option for kids. Fun as well as educative. If you don't have kids of your own, you can make faces at other people's children. No, I don't do that. It's just a suggestion. It's fun. These were the four places that we visited in Bhubaneswar. There were other places as well such as Rajarani Temple, Odisha State Mueseum, but given the time constraint, we visited only these four. That's it folks. Our taxi took 45 mins. to drop us at the airport from Nandankanan. Another two and a half hours of travel and we were back in Delhi. Ahhh.. Delhi.. the land of fresh oxygen. In the limited time we had in Bhubaneshwar we made a visit to the Nandankanan zoo. Till date, it remains to be the best one I have seen. It is one of the best in India in terms of caring for the animals, recording one of the lowest death rates in India It is also one of the most visited recording 2 million visitors every year. Everything crawling might bring chills to people's hearts but they fascinate me. So, my judgement of a good zoo also rests on how the reptile house is. If I chose one word to describe it, mesmerising is the word I would use.
Nandankanan Zoological Parkis located 20 kms ahead of the capital city Bhubaneswar in Orissa. It has aquarium, zoo, safari and boating opportunity. This Zoo is well maintained and variety of animals, reptiles, birds are kept here. Here we took the services of a guide , initially took us around the zoo and accompanied with us to tiger, lion and bear safari .The attraction to me was the royal Bengal tiger. Electric Battery operated car (privilege at the cost of waiting time )is also available for those who want a quick zoom through the park.
Nandankanan Zoological Park and Botanical Garden in Bhubaneswar is a must-visit place for wildlife lovers. Nandankanan means the ‘Garden of Pleasure’. It serves as the first captive Gharials breeding centre of India. This park boast of having a wide variety of fauna ranging from white tiger, spotted deer, Lion, Chimpanzee, Orang Utan, Crocodile and many more which you can witness in their natural habitat while seating on the safari bus.
There was a beautiful name that made rounds during my search for the places of attraction in Odisha. It was 'Nandan Kanan' which translates literally to 'The garden of heaven'. Nandankanan is a zoological park, and no offence meant, I found the name quite deceptive . It had animals 'caged' in a forest, though we tell otherwise. Nary a thought, anyone can skip Nandankanan.
