Bishnupur is rather a little known town in Bankura district in West Bengal. This town is famous for a large number of Terracotta temples. Terracotta is basically clay based ceramic, where clay is made brick by burning them and lot of porosity is trapped inside. All these temples are built by different kings from Malla dynasty who ruled there for over Thousand years. The intricate designs on the temples on laterite depicts scenes from Ramayan, Mahabharat and Purans. There are many temples and presently ASI is taking care of the temples. But sadly, I must say that most of the temples require urgent restoration before all the glory is lost.
