To brush away the week's tiredness, we always look for getaways to replenish our minds. Some seek some time with nature, some seek spiritual, some cultural. I am sharing such weekend getaways from Bangalore.
For nature seekers, waterfall lovers, Shivanasamudra is the Perfect Getaway.
At a distance of 135 km from the city centre, these amazing waterfalls are a comfortable 3 hour ride by car.
These are twin waterfalls dropping off from the Kaveri River. They are called Bharachukki and Gaganachukki which are separated by a few kilometeres.
The best time to visit this waterfall is during the monsoon from July to September, while the fall is high and wide. Since this is a perennial waterfall, you will almost find water throughout the year. The first ever hydroelectric power station has been set up here.
Let the gushing sounds of the waterfalls sooth your soul and calm your mind.
There is no entry fees to this place.
For spiritual seekers, wanting to go to religious place, Kotinlingeshwara is the place for you.
This is at a distance of 100 km from city centre, a 2 hour ride by car/bike. There are also KSRTC buses from KR Market, Majestic which drop off at the temple. However bus journey might take around 4 hours.
Kotinlingeshwara as the name suggests houses crores of Shiva Lingas, with a gigantic Shiva Linga surrounded by various lingas.

At about 25km from this temple, lies the Ramalimgeshwara Temple, Avani. (Also known as Gaya of the South). You could also visit this place.
If folk-culture is your calling then head to Janapada Loka located on Bangalore-Mysore Highway. Discover Karnataka's folk culture, traditions, habits, lifestyle, classical arts.
For cultural seekers, this place is an absolute joy. You need about 2 hours to explore the entire place.

Adventure seekers can head to Antargange for trekking and cave exploration. It can be reached from the Kotinlingeshwara temple within 1 hour lying at a distance of around 40km.
The trek point starts from the stairs behind the lake near the temple. You can choose to do it yourself or take the help of the locals by laying them a nominal fee. They help you trek to the village situated uphill. You can also do night camping there if you wish to.
I have covered places of different interests to different people. Pick one of your choice and get going.
